seems percentage to play this double as either thrump or cards, and with the trump stack you must pass and hope that partner who will have shortness and know his opponents have stopped in 3s with trumps splitting badly will reopen with a double

I would just like to say to this doug murphy that I have played on hundreds of teams with marc jacobus as partner and teammate and I can say that he is a top professional who is as nice and at the same time as intense as any bridge player I have ever known. Sadly, as bridge professionals we all have our moments where our minds don't always cooperate and we are not at our best and we have all learned that we ALL make baby mistakes and the best players are the ones who can pick up the next hand and dig in. For this amateur Murphy to interpret a misguess as “unprofessional” and be critical of someone I KNOW to be one of the worlds top players and people is so offensive it makes me think maybe bridgewinners needs to come up with some kind of restriction on people writing nonconstructive nonsense that is false, inaccurate, and hurtful to those of us who know better. Maybe we should just direct these kind of people to Judy's blogging sight where these kinds of comments are Standard American.

barry- i was very tempted to lead the diamond ace because 6 diamonds was likely on my right and if dummy had 2 diamonds ace and a diamond ruff and a heart back for another diamond could have been necessary to defeat the contract–i decided to hedge with the heart ace hoping to now be able to play a trump or ace and a diamond depending on how many diamonds were in the dummy. declarer's spades rate to be a little shakey since he didnt michaels and jump to 4s or just jump to 4s at his first or second opportunity so it is possible declarer has something like qjxxxx,void,kqj10xx,a and partner has ak of spades and now u tapping declarer out by leading hearts at every opportunity. partner with 2 diamonds and dummy having a stiff will often be in a position to overuff dummy in diamonds sometimes where say partner has kx and declarer has to lead diamonds out of their hand and im ducking the 2nd and 3rd round of diamonds and we heart tapping them every time we get in so declarer loses control of the hand. so maybe i shoulda lead a low heart but i try the keep the ball in the middle of the court especially when im comparing with meckwell who naturally were +790 on this board. btw in '69-i was at game 5 of world series 10 rows behind first base, and went home with a piece of the met infield hidden in my pants so they would let me on the train…

this was one of the most interesting hands of the tournament..in the end position where hamman had x, 10x, void, ax rho had to hold 5 cards and it seemed like it took quite a while for Freddie to discard coming down to 5 cards.i thought the break in tempo gave away the fact that he had 2 hearts left and therefore ace and a club seemed indicated.(of course if you think a long time with stiff q of hearts left is this coffee housing???good luck with that in any committee in the world) vugraph showed hamman's lho playing 7/2 of hearts although we never know if that was accurate and I dont even know what kind of carding they play. many pairs that play udca still play standard carding on the lead of the a-akx and this hand illustrates why. I was amazed hamman didnt play ace and a spade and play the q of diamonds discarding a club with the only risk being 3 rounds of hearts early on, but he was right, maybe.

I think if Adam is gonna end up being Steve's personal hero he needs a nickname. I propose Big Slick. (as in AK)

The problem with Gary's 4s bid is it sounds like you don't have a diamond control. I would prefer to directly bid 5d with Gary's hand as exclusion and gamble that I don't have a spade loser in slam and then if partner shows 2 key cards and I try for 7 he will bid it with a good spade holding easily. As far as David's bidding, I don't mind cue bidding a king but then following that by cue bidding a king in my opponent's suit at the 5 level- I hate-as I would always expect the Ace. I would say they were both at fault, and should be forced to play golf and eat together alone for a week. Maybe two.

seems like a coin toss except for the fact that when you bid 4s the opponents don't always take the winning action in the bidding and they don't always lead or defend to par

Gotta go with Italy–Alfredo “little Jimmy” Versace and Don Lorenzo are always very confident when they are sure they wont have to face Joe Boo.

Hi Bob-I know you know this story but I thought I would share this with the well wishers…I was having dinner one night with the late great Paul Soloway when Soloway said “this Hamman is driving me crazy making me play 4 card majors”! I said Paul just tell Bob to go jump in a lake. Paul thought about it a second and said Bobby if Bob wants to play 3 card majors I'm in.

you knew rho had ak10xxx of spades, the ace of diamonds and the ak of clubs at the point rho foolishly played the spades ace-I would think with heart K added in there rho might have opened 2c..marty bergen told me years ago if he knew the opponents did something crazy in either the bidding or the play his theory was to trust the opponents in the bidding much more than trusting them in the card play. these days everyone plays cards at such a higher level that I think marty's theory is now outdated.

what a great match played at such a high level for 120 boards by 2 teams that proved again why they are the best of the best

assuming you not playing a big club-what do you do when you open 1 club and they bid 2s and your partner bids 3h? btw, I love the Boo bid–I hate bids that have multi meanings that you often can never find out what they mean–we call these bids “Berki” bids and try to do away with as many of them as possible

although what you say is true about Gatlinberg it has much natural beauty and if you are spending time with people you really enjoy playing and hanging out with(as I did) then you really dont care if the restaurants and hotels are great or just clean and decent.
