Thanks for the attempt. Don't give up. You have succeeded in finding a format that wasn't well-received. I suspect both cost ($120 is my electric bill for a month) and format (five day every day commitment) played a role. (We've found maybe twice a week is sufficient. Additionally, our area is about to reopen businesses and I suspect some small 2-5 table social club games will resume.)

BC = BU? A whole year!!! That's a pretty aggressive short position, unless they plan to use it for facility upgrades while campus is empty. If they are right that normalcy will take that long I fear it will not return in our remaining lifetimes, even if we both see 85+, which I might not care about doing if the ecomomy is allowed to completely tank. Shortages, riots, and martial law are in that bleak future. No thanks.

If we stick to NABC+ events, which scare most ACBL club players more than the Corona virus, we shouldn't have a conflict problem and most likely won't have or could control any cheating situations.

Never heard of it. Sounds like what you give a boy who just had a rabbinical procedure.

If we can't function on the honor system, we need to go back to…well, I'm not sure what game allows/encourages cheating. Just quit bridge.

Unlikely. I think FL is one of the states chomping at the bit to return to normal operations, possibly with some caveats (and hopefully no more than normal cadavers).

I see no reason why the youth games can't be online too. Doubt any of them would cheat unless just for the “War Games” reason – just to see if it could be done; certainly not maliciously.

They hired a fundraiser as their director. She's put her skills to use; not a bad thing, but suddenly the organization got pretty slick but the fund grants remain pretty scattered while staying in the general mission realm of “youth bridge support.” Here's a link to what they did in 2019. I think FPAB has a chance to be more targeted if it becomes active. (Please don't ask for target list – not my focus.)

You might consider the Foundation for the Preservation and Advancement of Bridge (FPAB) as a top level charity to which to contribute. They are not bound by the Ed Fdn model.

It would be fun to be able to play against that, strong 1C systems, and more that we never see around these parts.

If the idea is to have fun AND give ACBL black points, then American-centric (although East Coast biased) makes sense, EXCEPT you might talk to Tanya R. about ABA participation for their equivalent points. If we want to do worldwide then maybe something leading to online WBF rankings (always fun to have) would be interesting.

Hey folks, while I walked away from the screen after viewing that video, this one from Max in SPANISH with English subtitles came up!

You have what I call a more modern post-Law view. In the old days XX was mandatory with 10+ HCP (NOT “support” points), and tended to deny support but could be a situation where the enemy stepped out with an untimely overcall and “we've got ‘em, pard, what do you want to do?” was the situation. The definition of the redouble was “we play the hand, or they play doubled” and passes of enemy bids were forcing.

I’m not so sure that is the case any more. What happens
1H, (DBL), RDBL, (4S),
Pass, Pass, ???
Is double or bid still mandatory?

What if your partner opens Acol 1x, Ian? Do you adjust XX upward to compensate for a 9 HCP opening?

Well, let's be optimistic that folks will miss the goodies and all the social stuff surrounding the actual play. Can't really mirror that on the Web. I like what the Unit is doing, and tell Rick thanks for his efforts. Hopefully they'll get around to us farm bureau clubs eventually. It's not exactly like we are being pestered by our players.

These are wonderful recorded Zoom group tutorials. (I wonder how long before so many folks get on Zoom it experiences the same server capacity problem that we gave to BBO?)

Oh, no good. First I got an add for something Google. Then I opened a new browser and put it in and a form appeared. Sorry, I can't advert that. Please advise when corrected.
