I want to add my view as a present board member on a for-profit company and as a former General Counsel and Executive Officer on another. Board size matters, and getting people off boards is nary impossible. Let's get it done! Steve makes a strong case for his point of view. The first step is to reduce the size of the Board, or nothing Steve advocates will happen. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Thank you all, especially JoAnn for the comments. Based on the views expressed, I am certainly no longer shocked at the voting. At the table I confess I might not call the director to cite the incident because no matter how we want to be neutral, there is an implied sense of distrust being expressed. At least that's how I expect it to be perceived by the opponents. The second time I see that, the hell with it!

I was shocked that the vote is not a landslide in favor of reporting. This director should be made aware of the sequence in the event that a pattern becomes discernible. If you don't report, how can the case for a pattern ever be made? But, expect no score adjustment on this hand.

Right on! My thoughts exactly. Chris, please don't confuse experience for knowledge and understanding. Keep learning.

I'm surprised by the multiple comments on this topic. Brad, I'm very much in favor of being a dues paying ACBL member. Whether it's a wonderful organization or not, bridge needs a grass roots, widely accepted flag carrier to survive. So it's up to you. If you love bridge, please re-up.

Now, they did not reach out to you in any different way than they “yeah out” to any other person who didn't renew. And if you want to be listened to more, perhaps try this site to gain others in support of the positions you feel are being inadequately recognized.

In any case, keep playing and enjoy.

Thanks for sharing this. It's a lesson about keeping things in context. Would that we apply it a bit more often in general discourse.

Kudos to Adam. Bridge is great because it is both a mind game and a social game, including partnership and atmosphere.

I'm in accord with the majority of commentators. Leave private contracts private. We don't need official process. If either party is unhappy, cut off the relationship.

I voted in the minority with a No response. The long hesitation was likely intentional to make sure the signal was understood. If that's my view, I can't lead a diamond. Thank you Richard.

I don't fall into the BW expert category, but if P does not have 4 Cs, then he must be prepared for his next bid. With 4 card support, I show it. It rates to be the correct strain. If not, P will place the contract in Ds or Hs most likely.

At MPs, Q of spades. IMPs, the 4.

Given the one-sided response, I'm just curious why you posted this Jay?

Everything depends on whether opener's partner had an understanding that the 2C opening was made with a degree of frequency without normal values. If so, potential adjustment, depending on auction, otherwise result should stand.

Long, long, and longer set of comments. Forgive me if this point of view has already been expressed. Fine to ask if you are considering a call, or you intend to bid, but what you may bid will vary based on the information you seek. So it's ok to ask and then pass if you were legitimately thinking of bidding but were dissuaded by the response.

Opening is acceptable. Passing the double makes no sense to me. Way too likely to make opposite a partner who could not respond.

With 3 quick tricks and 4 spades I'd rather get the message across right away and leave the rest to partner. Partner won't expect this much defense in particular if I balance. Would pass without 4 spades.

We can argue about systems etc. But when you have a bare minimum, why make positive moods beyond game? I can at least partially understand 4 Cs as an attempt to avoid in 5-2 S fit with a poor suit. But why 4 NT? When you're fixed, stay that way and sign off in 4 Ss.

I'm in the camp of 4 spades and 6 strong hearts. I expect 2 Hs over the 1 H response directly is natural, so the only reason to double is to bring spades into the equation.

Completely agree. A few black suit honors and short hearts should yield a light HCP game. Even w 2 Hs game should have OK play.
