When I was in Omaha, the limited game had mushroomed to 1500. So the limited game had 15-17 tables while the open game dwindled to 6-10

Partner actually had a hand he could have bid 2 with: Qx, x, Kxxxx, AJxxx.
He did a little downgrade on the Qx and stiff in my first suit. If he bids 2, I bid 3 and we make our way to 5 instead of 3NT. For those of you that play the “impossible spade” bid, is his a clear case for the bid in your opinions?

Sounds like a reasonable understanding to have. Thus 3NT would deny a spade stopper I guess. But club situation would be ambiguous?

What meaning would you give to 3? Worried about spades? Worried about clubs? Other?

First time I’ve seen Jeff’s shoes tied. Do I sense a trend? Great job guys.

Partner had x, x, AKT9xxx, Axxx. Not exactly a 3 bid. 3NT is last making contract. I think Chuck and Jack’s comments are relevant.

Since I’m not a ORF advocate, I’m not qualified to answer that. Anyone else?

I’m hoping Partner didn’t forget our agreement and double 2 to show a good suit, then use UI to pull 4 doubled. Can’t think of any legitimate reason to run.

Mike was one of the most creative players I’ve known. Don’t remember the auction now, but I was in 3NT against silent opponents. Mike lead the Q from AQT creating an entry to his partner’s Jxxxx. Only lead to beat the contract (I had Kx). Never forgot it. RIP

East did mean it as a WJO showing diamonds only

So if you play it responsive…do you bid 2 for penalty?

At the local dup on consecutive hands the same person bid 2 over 1 on 6 HCP and a 5 card suit (not a passed hand). Then made a neg X over 1-1 on a 3 count with 7 spades 2-2-2. Psychs or just bad bridge? A player with over 2100 master points by the way.

Thanks to someone finally bringing up pass as a reasonable alternative. For the reasons stated and the vul, I chose pass. It got us an average. It makes 4 and 4 due to a 2-2 spade split. Without the 2-2 split, it would make 5 snd only 3. (Partner had Qx). LHO had 6 diamonds, 5 hearts and a good hand.
