First sectional I played in was with my wife's 91 or 92 year old Grandmother. I was in my early 30s and one pair asked her if we were related.

She looked at my RHO and said stone faced “he's my gigolo”. The entire table didn't stop laughing the whole round.

My partner told me I should have bid 4 directly (instead of 3) holding AQTxx AKJTxx x x because I had the 6th heart in my hand and only 2 minor suit cards. For all I know she could have been broke with 2s but I'd never pass holding this when partner invites.

I love the discussion here given I'm a NLM. I'd pass the first round (I always dig a hole for myself bidding 2 with that type of hand) and 4 on round 2.

I passed this hand though based on the actual sequence in the poll. To me, the 2nd X is partner telling me he can beat the contract and I'm not going to overrule it.

Memphis BBQ is very good if you're going to Horn Lake. Central is excellent as well. The best I've had is at Germantown Commissary but it's a good 30 minutes from downtown so probably not a realistic option.

I travel to Memphis a lot for work. I've stayed at that Doubletree twice and both times were very average at best. The rooms could use some major updating and plan on 20-30 minutes to get your car in the morning from the valet.

I was North and had to lead against this slam, but it was in 6NT. Alarm bells were going off in my head against leading a but I still did it and declarer made 7 easily.

Thanks Greg. My 6 year old has been saying she wants to learn and your rules seem really simple

I voted what I bid at the table since I held this hand, but I was strongly considering 3NT as well

I stayed in DuPont circle 3 blocks from the Red Line. From there it was 1 stop to the Marriott. It was $85 a night all inclusive after splitting the cost with my partner for a small condo. The Uber ride was about $5 the one time we needed it

Got home yesterday from the NABC (my 2nd one ever). Although we missed qualifying for the Flt C GNT knockout by 2 VPs after getting blitzed in the final round I had a really good time. The games we played in Thurs - Sat all started on time. I had a lot of fun in the midnight Zips on Friday because it's the first time I've ever really played against top experts and it's also just a really different experience.

My only ‘nit’ was that for a hotel that has as many conventions and events as the Marriott does, the service at the local restaurants was really slow. We had to walk out of one place because there was no way we were going to make our 1:00 session start time.

I did not because they did it as 3rd hand immediately after their partner played the opening lead. In that case it would have made any difference treating it like a major penalty card

I played in the Thursday night side game and on multiple occasions the 3rd hand already played their card before dummy came down at trick 1. It was kind of annoying.

I started with 4 and we eventually found our way to 6NT (5-5-5-6NT were the follow-on bids). It can make but you have to figure out to play low to the 10 on the first club since they split 6-0 (partner has KQxxx in the suit).

6 is cold playing from the North but I found it to be a really interesting problem.

I did bid 4 thinking partner would interpret it as a strong bid with and was curious what folks here thought.

Just for the rest of the story he bid 4 holding KQJxx QT xxx AKx and we were cold for 7 in 3 suits

Standard, 2 was not game forcing

I actually just went to 6 given partner wouldn't answer. Either minor was cold for 7 as long as you don't get a lead. Partner left shortly after I asked him why he opened 1NT with a 20 hcp hand :)

This was part of the problem I had holding these cards. A ‘mute’ partner on BBO with no profile didn't help matters either.

I'd prefer ‘Taste Great’ vs. ‘Less Filling’
