1991, you were playing with me. Hotel had double booked. Luckily there was enough room for the Seniors Pairs but us “young” bucks got to play in the tent. Cards were blowing off the tables - was quite funny.

The way I heard the story was that one of the women was the wife of the tornament chairman and they discovered it going over the hands after the game. They wanted to ban him for life but apparently the district could only ban him for 1 year, so the first order of business by the district each year was to ban HH for 1 year.

Many years ago there was one player in my area who played very bad preempts often short, so I used to put “Fishbein vs ”player's name" on my cc.

He was originally from Lithuania (or one of the Baltic States) and lived in Victoria when I first started playing bridge in the late 60's. He won the World Individual in something like 1949. When I first knew him his 1NT was something like 21-23 but he mellowed in his old age. He played basically no conventions but was a great dummy player and defender. I played with him numerous times in sectionals and regionals - always an adventure.

“Prior to the hearing, the committee found that no charge could be proved against Hastings and dismissed her from the case, which decision is being appealed to the Appeals and Charges Committee.” Huh? How could they possibly decide before the hearing and who is appealing the decision?

Seems like an unnecessary and rude post.

‚ÄúChurchill: “Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?” Socialite: “My goodness, Mr. Churchill… Well, I suppose… we would have to discuss terms, of course… ”
Churchill: “Would you sleep with me for five pounds?”
Socialite: “Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?!” Churchill: "Madam, we've already established that. Now we are haggling about the price

If the allegations are true 0 0 is not draconian - if they fabricated a scarecard as alleged they should have been disqualified from the event. The director must have been awed by the people involved.

Wasn't there a story that whatever district South Dakota is in used to meet just before the South Dakota regional happened and ban Ron Anderson for the maximum amount of time allowed?

Could these kinds of occurances be the reason there were only 7 teams in this event?

I once played on a regional swiss team with Bob Etter - I took the results up to report our win and the director said “Derek you have to play faster” - I said I was playing with Bob Etter - he said “Oh, thanks for getting the results up so quickly”.

This bid is weak in Goren, Standard American and 2/1 - I don't understand why it is not alertable and when I play flip flop I alert it

In the early days of the BR, you lost all your accumulated qualifications when you played in the event. I think that was probably the reason for the other ways to qualify.
