I can't really be bothered to read the whole thread but:
1. If your opponents are decent enough to recognize the situation, how can you possibly read anything into it. They wouldn't actually be thinking of playing the Queen…
2. If you have a 100% read that with a certain tell they never have the honour, you're quids in.

Bit of an aside but in a social pairs game without convention cards, I would have mentioned to the opponents that XX showed .

1 was natural, it was East's best suit opposite a take out double. So there's no damage there.

Agree with the sport comment, though not sure whether bridge being a sport has any impact on whether qualifiers here were treated properly. I'd think it was an equal farce if the Monopoly World Final had been rearranged continuously like this.

I think I would have been a little sceptical given the link suggests it will be held in ‘Shanghai or Sanya’, two places 2300km apart. Had something more specific been provided through other channels? I guess so if people had booked flights…

Well if you only take joy in winning - maybe. I would have thought the majority would relish to opportunity to play against the best in the world.

I've looked at what's included in the resort fee, and it looks fairly tame. Presumably there is some sort of Wi-Fi? The resort fee talks about ‘enhanced wifi’.

Presumably you can use the swimming pools or gym under the $160+tax room rate?

Thanks for the reply Alvin. Though mine also shows up if I am not logged in and just use the confirmation number to check the booking. Anyway, thanks for your reassurance - I expect it will work out in the end :).

On a side note, I sent the resort a message on FB to enquire on the bed situation (as I requested two beds when I booked originally but now my booking suggests they aren't available). And they replied telling me to phone up, which I am slightly reluctant to do so from the UK. I thought it was a strange reply given it was the resort's specific FB messaging contact, and I am shipping them $2k to stay there.

I often play a bid of 6C here as asking for third round control. Anyone have a suggestion that this is bad, or that this shouldn't apply here for some reason?

I also have the resort fee on my Marriott Rewards profile (probably not a surprise), though wasn't aware it would be waived. I'm happy that I'll be able to sort it when I arrive assuming I pay when I'm there - is that the case? If my CC gets charged in advance, I'll be paying it currently.

Doesn't feel completely off the planet to bid something like

(2)-dbl-(3)-pass
(pass)-dbl-(pass)-4*
(pass)-5NT*-(pass)-6

I would say you're strong enough to double twice (20+ seems a bit restrictive).
4 - choice of game (not sure that partner has 4)
5NT - pick a slam (partner might not have any )

Actually 5NT is a bit of an overbid. Perhaps 4NT better. And when partner bids 5, you can raise to slam. 5 probably plenty opposite s

An incredible response. Boye has said a few things as far as I can tell.

One that players need to take responsibility for playing ethically themselves.

Secondly, and most importantly that players have a RESPONSIBILITY to report potential indiscretions to the ‘proper authorities’. Which is what you would do with a crime witnessed in day-to-day life. If it wasn't a crime, then the authorities can take no action. Reporting a crime isn't vigilantism.

Whether the ‘proper authorities’ will, or can, do anything substantial with the information is a different matter. And that's why we perhaps rely on peer pressure…

FWIW, I personally don't mind a bit of vigilantism if it gets results.

Which pairs who have been outed do you think have been unfairly treated?!! I can't say I've followed everything but the few cases off the top of my head were pretty open and shut cases to anyone who understands bridge.

They didn't according to the WBF results. Their opponents, the Dutch pair, Tijssen-Kiljan did.
