It will be sad if this is the last World Championships in the United States, but it may be necessary if the U.S. does not change their immigration policies. It is hard to have a “World ChampionshIps” when the world is not aloud in. Hopefully the United Sates will pass some immigration reform and it will be possible to hold more international championships in the future. Unfortunately that doesn't help the 32 participants who had bought tickets to Philadelphia and had practiced so hard and had their hearts set on playing. I think a big thank you should go out to Feldman Feldman and Associates who volunteered their time to help many bridge players who were able to get into the country and some of the players who despite everyone's best efforts where not able too :)

How is it that you can remember a bridge hand from two years ago off of the top of your head, but I send you to the grocery store and you forget milk? ;) Maybe its a guy thing :)

Great article Gavin. What a great idea to incorporate some of the history of our game! I had no idea that was how the invention of the bidding box had occurred. I also have fond memories of those red bidding boxes. The club I first played in had those exact same ones!

Great article! I really enjoyed reading it. I will have to watch my openers when we play in a couple weeks. Is this why you are out of town the first few days when I am home? :) I must have made some poor bids the last time we played! :)

This is an interesting hand. What our your thoughts on the hand Gavin? I am curious what happened at the table? What is the full deal?

I hold Fred in high esteem also, perhaps it was an operator error.

I would pass initially. I once overcalled a weak two at a junior training session and got teased about that overcall all weekend. I was told it was the worst bid of the weekend :) All in good fun, but I am going to pass this time.

I would still pass the second time around. I am not happy in 2S doubled, but I don't want to make it worse by trying to run. I would hope for the best and past. I might also kick myself for doubling :) I do feel a little better knowing North didn't double directly.

We couldn't ask for a better match than this. The Fleisher and Diamond teams couldn't put on a better show. Let's hope for more good bridge this afternoon!

OK, clearly my lead didn't work, but I don't feel too bad if Jeff Meckstroth did something similar :)

This has been an exciting set on BBO. The Harris team is off to a great start against NIckell.
