I cash the third heart just in case my partner found the killing lead with two hearts and AQ of diamonds. If partners discards, I will follow his signal. If not, I will probably switch to spades, playing him for the K of spades and Ace of diamonds.

I like Patrick Laborde's response. As the count of the suit is evident from the bidding, coming back the 5 of spades, in general principles will help partner to find the correct switch (in our case club from Qxx)

I don't know about regionals and sectionals but I can tell you the feedback I receive for the nationals: People from Europe and Middle-East are less inclined to play in a national because they find the atmosphere more hostile(opponent's behavior, director calls and rulings etc) than the tournaments in the other side of the Atlantic. Not my view, but certainly the view of many.

rdbl to show strength, then pass maybe partner can penalise and anyway it is forcing. if partner does not double bidding continues in natural terms.

I don't understand how you cannot lead your singleton with so few values!

Passing seems very strange. If one sequence is forcing this is it. Partner made a grand slam try and we leave them playing 6H undoubled red vs white?? For the history partner had AKJxxx – AKQxx xx, so 6Spades by South (because west is void in diamonds) and 7D is always making. From the sequence you can deduce the void in hearts and AK AK in spades and diamonds, maybe it is a fair bet to bid 7 (i doubled -:( )

You know my opinion, S+D for me should be the agreement. But I used to prefer the slam try with spades!
