The same contrast with JCA comment on “Israel - do the right thing !” (http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/israel-do-the-right-thing/?cj=221534#c221534)

“Dear Les, I've rarely read such a strong post here… I hope you'll be heard by the IBF.. A great great bravo!!!”

Let's just hope FMB is not deaf, either…

Andrew,
“I think further investigation of F/N is called for to answer that question.”

Why further investigation ?
If there is already enough evidence (and it really seems that is indeed the case), then take appropriate actions.

i.e., if one cheats ==> life ban, period.

There is no need to prove that one can:
- signal opening leads, or switches
- signal suit length
- signal suit strength
- signal whatever you can imagine that is illegal

Proving only one of the above illegal signalling method should be enough for proving cheating.

“ Seems like we need to eliminate all possible positioning, noises, pens, shirts, tables, etc. at least at the top level.”

Above all, we need to eliminate shirts from women events ?

OK, I go out, sorry…

“ in many (most?) Olympic events, many countries send up to 3 participants”

Josh,
Yes for individual sports(judo, athletics, etc..), no for collective ones (i.e. basketball, soccer, volley and so on).

And it is not a matter of performing well or not, I suppose that if USA could send 2 basketball teams to olympics, they would surely finis 1st and 2nd at each olympics.

“England, Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland. ”

Each have separate national governing bodies for sports and compete separately in many international sporting competitions. And I don't think that status can be compared to the USA having 2 teams.

But, if that pleases you, OK, they should also compete under one UK team as in the Olympics games.

“I might, once you explain to me why it's totally wrong. :-)”

Do you know any other sport/game world championship allowing 2 teams from the same country in final stage ?

“ALL the sports grant the participation of the reigning champions to the following edition”

ALL but soccer, the world champion must go through qualifications for the next edition and it is the largest followed world cup…

if they can't find any decent teammates, wouldn't they win (or at least try to) all the remaining pairs games then ?

In summary:

“Shooting only against certain opponents.”
Legal? Yes, it is.
Ethical? Yes, it is.

Anything else ?

Drew,

on that side of the ocean, when a disciplinary commitee states that a player, whoever his name, is found guilty of prearranging, well it means that the player has been found guilty of prearranging a deal and nothing else.
And I truly hope you also think that such a behaviour only deserves a life ban.
So, sorry but I don't feel ashamed as the reaction was truly based on what is written in the ACBL DB without supposing that on your side of the ocean, a committe verdict could have several meanings, including one apparently totally erroneous regarding the story told by your friend.

BTW, I already apologized above however, I still think that prearranging a deal, whoever does it, deserves life ban and I'm not ashamed of that.

“Well, he was not! ”

Indeed, as well as the ACBL verdict stating “found guilty of .. E13 (Prearrange a deal or part thereof)” sounds now very wrong, doesn't it ?

Hello,

I owe you an apology as I overreacted yesterday following the “prearranging a deal or part thereof” part of the ACBL bulletin which sounded like “this man has cheated”.

This indeed is quite a sad story, and I don't understand how such misguided verdict wiithout any explanation could be published in that way in the ACBL bulletin.

My apologies again.

Fine, you are wrong.

for the moment, ACBL seems to state that one has been “found guilty of violating … and E13 (Prearrange a deal or part thereof)”.

It sounds the nature of the infraction is quite clear to a non-native english speaker but I may have missed a subtility.

“Given the caliber of the player involved”, I disagree with that part, communication & sanction about any cheat affair (whatever the name is john doe or any superstar) should be the same IMO.

“To David and all the other folks interested in knowing who's dirty, ask around. It's not exactly top secret.”

It may be complicated from France and not being part of top-level bridge, are you willing to answer privately ?
