In Switzerland and France, at all the clubs I played at, entering the OL was required. In some cases the software verified that the OL card was in fact in the hand of the opening leader.

Long suit GT, relay with 2NT and then show your long suit, or do not relay and bid your short suit directly. Easiest way to remember, LSGT use the long way (via relay) SSGT go the short way. This is the simplest method for playing both types of game tries.

I used to play HSGT after a major suit fit was found with some partners and with some other partners long suit game tries together with short suit game tries. On the advice of a world class player I changed to 2NT as a game try which partner would reject, accept or show the suit he would accept a game try if neither min or max. The benefit of this approach is that it makes it harder for the person on lead. All bids other than 2NT would be natural with slam interest. This has simplified the bidding and has also provided some very good results.

I think that cost is also a factor. The travel, accommodation, food and other related costs including table fees.

Elianna, i heard a rumour that they will play on two of the Geneva area based teams (so not all on the same team) in the Liga A, so we may have the opportunity to play against some of them the second week-end in Fribourg.

Meike, I can assure you that obtaining a work permit or permis de sejour in Switzerland is not a given. Granted that it is easier if you are an EU national but obtaining a B permit that Nedju refers to is not automatic. As far as the authorities not checking whether a person applying to live and work in Switzerland has ‘deregistered’ from his former country, that may be true. However in that case the person will be liable for taxes in his former country as well as in Switzerland. The tax rate for individuals living in Geneva is not low. Geneva is not a tax haven. Zug and some other cantons have low rates. So I agree with Nedju that unless the person can obtain a Swiss permit, he will not be resident in Switzerland legally.

Nedju, i just noticed on pages 11-12 of the final bulletin of the Istanbul EBL Championships (unfortunately I do not know how to put in the link from my ipad) are interviews with PZ and the president of the Swiss Bridge Federation. PZ does confirm who the future team members will be.

The Geneva area of Switzerland is a good place for families. It is also very international. As PZ owns a « regie » which buys, sells and rents apartments and houses, housing should not be a problem. I also believe that the EBL will verify with the Swiss Bridge Federation that the members of the Swiss national team are eligible to represent Switzerland. As an aside, I hope that the quality of bridge in Switzerland will improve with the arrival of some world class players and that their presence will assist in the promotion of bridge within Switzerland.

Nedju, are xou sure 3,5 applies to PZ snd not 3.4. If PZ decided to continue residing in Monaco, i believe 3.5 would apply, but if he changes residence to CH, then I think 3.4 would apply. However I am not a lawyer.

Nick, you could be right (I live in Switzerland and I am Swiss as you can tell by my name.) and I assume that any pro’s on his team who will not join him in Switzerland will be released as you say. However I did speak to a member of the Swiss Open team who told me that PZ would be forming a team to represent Switzerland. Given the issues that some of the members of his team have, the decision of Versace and Lauria not to play for Monaco, the timing is right for him to take a break and try to form a team in Switzerland. In time we will see what happens.

The sooner PZ stops representing Monaco, the sooner he can represent Switzerland in EBL and WBF events. That may be the reason he decided not represent Monaco this September.

I also play the continuationa tgat Chris has outlined. In addition, 3C/3D over 2D by responder is invitational in hearts/spades. To be clear, responder has hearts or spades and is asking opener if he can support.

At matchpoints, I like to play this double as they play 3D doubled or we play 3H.

I play 2S as invitational to 3NT without 4 spades and 2NT as invitational to 3NT with 4 spades, to ensure the 1NT opener plays the hand.

With a fit and a slam going hand, after the 2M response to Stayman, bid 3OM. Otherwise you can also bid a natural 3m unless you reserve 3C for minor suit Stayma.

I play this as well. But in addition, 3C and 3D by responder show hearts and spades respectively and ask opener to support with 3 small or Hx. without this, he bids his suit,
