I would have been happier for south to play 3NT to protect the club king
maybe because east did not support spades, the probability of your partner having something in spades increases?

wow!
Avril and I were super pushy on this board
she opened 1 D as south
1S overcall
2 H by me ( north)( forcing for one round)
3 C be east
3 D by her
then 3NT by me
9 tricks because the diamonds broke!!
I even got a club lead but thankfully the king held

I think south should bid 3 NT
very balanced and more importantly north is not a passed hand
if north was a passed hand, it may well be a different story
your X was great
I don't think everyone in your position would X opposite a pre empt
you don't know the club situation after all
but your cards in the majors are very good

I don't think so
even if you play 2 rounds of trumps yourself, the heart nine comes high when you ruff the third heart, you can pitch one diamond on it, you lose one diamond anyway and you can ruff 2 diamonds in the south hand and 2 spades in the north hand

we defended 3NT by west and I was on lead
I lead the 9H.
This worked well
we got 2 H
2 S and the king of clubs for 1 down

I opened 1 NT with the north hand
we got to 3 NT but I didn't get a heart lead
I got a club lead
I agree with you Sue
the contract looked so easy at first but then I was in some doubt
I didn't touch hearts until the second last trick when I played out of my hand
I actually ended up playing the 3 of Spades from dummy to the 8 of Spades which held!!
I then unblocked the king of diamonds
Somehow I ended up with 10 tricks

Avril as south opened 1 C
1 D overcall and I bid 2 D
we got to 6 C making
if your style is to bid 1NT without a stopper, I would think you definately need a system to make sure whether the suit can be stopped or not
I quite liked my 4 crappy diamonds for a club contract but not for NT

I opened 1 Spade
my partner saw slam!
but after this sequence;
1 S - 2 H - 2 S - 3 H - 3 S
she gave up and bid 4 S.
I really think you are too strong to pre empt with this hand
a good suit and a void!!

we have decided that if you cue partner's suit after another suit agreement it shows an ace or king so I think it's important then to bid 5 diamonds over 5 clubs. partner is the captain now and I am just obeying orders

peter, this was my favourite board!!
and yes! I blew a trick
when you came back the jack of spades, I thought you had a doubleton so I put you with 4 hearts
all I have to do is cash the spade king and wait until I make the extra trick with the club 9!
However when dummy went down, I honestly though “oh oh” we've missed a vul game
I was VERY pleasantly surprised when 4 spades goes down!!

George opened 4 clubs ( namyats) and peter showed slam interest with his hand.
6 H was easy now
I lead the queen of clubs and that was the end of our tricks!

Peter opened 2 S with the east hand and west passed.
I doubled and now Avril bid 3 clubs which is constructive.
Now George bid 3 spades and it got passed out for a plus to us.
I think north is too flat to do anything heroic.
I was happy to X over 2 spades but I don't think I would have X'd over 3 spades

peter did awfully well to play in 4 spades
most pairs would end up in 3NT and partner would know to lead top of the sequence in hearts, especially when east bid 1NT over a 1 D opening
