I am addicted to both bridge and caffeine. If rules required me to quit either one the withdrawal pains would be severe.

Thanks for your interest. I do have a partner now. I am traveling around South America and not online much, so I didn't get back to you sooner.

BBO also has a double-dummy solver. Click MyBBO/hands and results/hand editor. Type in your hand and the GIB tab at the bottom will tell you the DD result of each card played.

Hi Brett,

I have been talking to a potential partner for the 10K IMP prs Mon-Tue, not set in stone yet. I also want to try the NABC Swiss the last weekend.

Please look at my convention cards here on bridgewinners. You'll notice I play a simple (especially by NY/NJ standards)2/1 style, and that I play Soloway strong jump shifts (2-level only) with all my partners. If you can be comfortable with that, let's discuss further. I will be at the Lancaster Regional this Fri-Sun. If you are there, we can talk.

Mike
They had originally expunged Mr Lebioda from the winning roster and stripped his MPs, that is when my team first heard of it. We objected to that; we did not want to go on record as losing to that team without him. Our district pressed the case that the directors definitely new who he was, and by rule the entire team should have been ruled ineligible. That would have meant voided all of that team's matches. In the end, his name (and MPs) were kept on the roster for the record books.

My team lost a close match in the finals of the 0-5000MP Mini-Spingold in 2008 to the team that included Lukasz Lebioda. Playing for Poland in the 1970s, he placed 4th in World Teams and Pairs championships, 2nd in a European team championship and First in the London Sunday Times Pairs! Backed by my district, my team challenged their squad's eligibility with the ACBL, but ultimately the result stood. The ACBL kept the whole affair hush-hush. Yours is the first mention I have seen in print.
My team had played well and the result could very well have been different without Lebioda.

When I play with my son, KISS means Keep it Simple, Son. Our prealert: expect the unexpected!

To disambiguate: KISS is the acronym. The rock band is Kiss. Lips and tongue = kiss.

I would bid a 4-cd major or 5-cd minor (maybe 4 w/2 honors). So it denies those. Nothing about values.j

My regular partner & I had a very similar hand recently:
2S 3D Non-forcing constructive (good hand, bad spades)
3H 4H

My suggestion: Adalberto's, straight down Market St to 25th St. 24-hr drive-thru. The best burrito, weed or no weed.

At t.5, after winning the DA, a West player who has some knowledge of squeeze defense will lead a club. Declarer needs C entries in both hands, and if E has the Q and 9, a club will break up the squeeze.

I am interested. I will be playing in the GNT Flight A, which of course I plan to be in through Sunday. I played in the SS Teams last time it was in Toronto, and finished 12th.
I live in Cleveland OH.

I think I am headed to a +50, when I pass.
My point is that my fortuitous bidding position (after 1H) and the vulberability allow me to describe my shape and my strength (almost). I'm thankful for that. I'll pass and late pard take it from here with spade length or both minors … or not.

Michaels show weak or strong, true, but V v NV at IMPS, I rule out weak hands and expect substantial offensive strength. I do not expect to cash enough of my lovely honors on defense. +100 vs +50 is not worth it. One commenter described it as having only one more Ace than the cuebid showed.

If the bidding went 1H-pass-4H to me, obviously I would come in, aware that it be a disaster. But the actual sequence combined with the vulnerability allowed me to describe my hand pretty well, and get out.
If I were NV here, the cuebid did not show my strength, so I would double 4H.

A majority of respondents agreed with the double, so they believe they have enough extra to keep going. I was just giving my opinion. Reasonable minds do differ. Often.

I picked up the Top-and-another in San Diego. I can easily believe it was started or promoted by the late Evan Bailey. He also invented the Bailey Two-bids, which I didn't think anyone outside of San Diego had heard of, until I noticed people in the Pittsburgh area playing them.

I should comment on my own :) convention.
If you subscribe to the mini-max style, a good way to play it, then 2H shows a STRONG hand with 5-5. ‘Nuff said.
I do not expect to beat 4H two tricks, and I deem -590 and -800 both more likely than +620 if you double 4H. Pard can get in with 3S holding 4 spades and little else the 1st round if he trusts his pard.

So I Pass over 4H … when it is given to me as a problem. At the table, state of the match or ’table feel' may get me to double.

Incidentally, I prefer ‘top and another’ to my eponymous convention. I want to get in with 5-5 including the boss suit whether the opener is a minor or major.

With S-98xxx, H-x, D-Jx, C-AKJxx NV v Vul, over 1D opener, bid 2D.
playing Michaels you would have to Pass or bid 1 spade.

All my opponents play Michaels! :)

If you pay by smart phone when a convention comes up, can the ACBL then fine you for using an electronic device at the table?

I abstained beause no agreement about 3D was mentioned. I play it as fit-showing in competition (UPH) with most of my partners, and as a passed hand with all of them. This is the ideal hand for it, and may get us to a spade game. Maybe the potted palm would work it out.
