I'm renting a car for $9 per day (not a typo) + taxes through Thrifty via Priceline. For 3 days, it will be about $67. Don't know if the price is still there, but if you're leaving the hotel at all, it may be worth it.

How about this? Against the elderly or “challenged” don't let the revoke become established. When you know that someone didn't follow, say something like “who didn't follow?” It really irks me to see sometimes so called experts take childish glee once a revoke becomes established so that they can gain from it. How about it bridge community?

I recently started playing 3 level jumps as intermediate with a semi-forcing nt. This would be at the top of that range.

For many reasons, I've felt for many years, that pros should be clearly identified either on the convention card, by a name tag or something similar. If one player doesn't know who the pros are and the rest of the field does, then the new player is at a disadvantage. Some pros teach and some pros try to earn masterpoints by whatever method is available. Registering them and trying to get a fee out of them? Good luck with that!

A preempt over a preempt definitely shows extra values. It also eliminates the chance that partner will pass a takeout dbl for penalty. Ideally, you are also playing leaping Michaels, so this is very much a one suited hand.

The preferential treatment issued to pros and clients is an important one that you've brought light to. Their etiquette, demeanor, etc are often problematic. There are many players who have come to think that the purpose of the league is to cater to the pros and clients. There are far more players who are neither pro nor client. Somehow, these players, who make up the nucleus of the ACBL are given second hand treatment. Many I believe have left the game for this kind of mistreatment and unpleasantness.

Simply put, why does West have to be punished for trying to push them up one higher? Mission accomplished. Now you have the best of it.

I'm a recent convert to precision, and I agree with ditching 1nt forcing. I like 2 level bids to show support for opener only forcing to 2 if openers suit. 3 can cover the better hands or Jacoby with Swedish responses. Always felt that the bidding systems for the masses could be improved.

After his scandal, Allan Cokin was allowed to return to bridge and contributed to the game in many ways. A well known player who is allowed to return will forever carry the cheating stigma and all clients or potential clients will know this. Yes, his partners/teammates should be stripped of victories where warranted. However, there is much that Passell could contribute to the game if he is so inclined and allowed to do so.

I stayed at an airbnb in Chicago walking distance to the Hilton and usually seek out better deals than the host site. However, if there was a meaningful discount on card fees for staying at the host site and booking through the ACBL, that would influence me.

Avoid events in Salon D on the lower level. It is hot, humid, and stifling. The organizers should have known about this. Highly uncomfortable or worse for those with respiratory issues.

I second the nap. It's worth more than the meal, although something small may help. I've done this in the car when necessary. Big difference.

There needs to be a better reward for winning a time consuming and difficult besides master points or assorted tchotchkes or trinkets.
Could events be run with either a small or not so small optional pool that would be returned to players who performed well?
I know this could open a Pandora's box, but the inevitable is that if bridge is not made more exciting, it will wither and die. The powers that be in the ACBL really need to think “outside the box” in order to attract interest from all ages, but especially youth.
