If xzy it's harder…you have to go all in on 2 vs 1!nt. Here it's an easy 2. I get it all…I might even bump 2s. Worst case partner finds the 2!nt card – make em work for that OT.

Ah, so in fact, N has very low standards for your opening bids – failing to gf with aakk.

What kind of “room service” are we talking about – I could imagine this description applying to a variety of “services.”

To clarify – EW had other agreements over 1N…

W believed suction was only applicable over a strong 1/2 opening and continuation.

E believed this included 2N and continuations

Their agreements (even if incongruous) are GCC legal.

Well, as committee, you have to determine the outcome given these facts as presented.

In this instance, obviously the UI in no way helped the defense.

Edited to show “before the lead.”

As far as the bidding…all bids – especially 3, were bid after significant pause.

The agreement was to play suction. E thought this applied to this auction…W only had strong 1c and 2c in mind.

Is MC relevant? I think over stayman you can do what you want – though, this was a GCC event.

And I can say that I might open gf hands 1 biscuit so anything is constructive…

Or the common instance of precision 1 1M on nothing or even standard 1c 1M or exfers even…

The point is that if you do something that is not mainstream then you need to be prepared to get ruled against. That's just the way it is.

Destructive and not constructive are not the same thing. The gcc allows 1nt to be anything but destructive. The Mc requires that 2c be constructive.

Well, last time I checked, the “standard forcing nt” method did not employ relays.

Also, I conceded that the constructive point is pretty much unanswerable. This is between you…what ever nondenominational being, and the director/committee.

So, I guess add clarvoient to you characterisation?

Opened 1nt 3rd white with like your noral ‘upgrade.’ Lho bids 2, partner passes, rho agonizes for a while and finally bid 3, all pass.

Pard leads and dummy apologizes to their pard “sorry, I didn't know if bergen was on.”

Also, 3 happened to be the limit and most were in 4 down 1.

I recommended to the opps they might try using the stop card followed by 3m to bid bergen. They apparently didn't think this was a joke and thanked me for the suggestion.
