X then pass 4. I think partner could easily have a weakish 5 card heart suit for his initial double (especially when I'm looking at AK). If partner is 3532 4 seems like the spot. Partner heard RHO bid 3 too (and knows our RHO is likely to have 4), I don't think pard's bidding 4 on jxxx or xxxx here. Even as little as qxxx or j10xx with significant values in the minors should give 4 pretty good play. 6 of a minor could easily be cold, but I don't know how to find out.

If partner had bid 4, 5, or 6 of a minor, I was bumping.

Nice report.

Personally, I was a big fan of the choice to hold it in Hawaii. For those of us on the West Coast, it is relatively convenient, and the location was family friendly. I realize that this was not a well attended tournament, but with proper planning and expectations it should not have resulted in a financial loss for the ACBL (I suspect the Regional with even fewer tables doesn't lose hundreds of thousands of dollars).

Perhaps an NABC in Puerto Rico? It is much more accessible to the East Coast, Europe, and Latin America. Moreover, there are many high end resorts with cheap room rates and I suspect the ACBL would have a lot of negotiating power there right now.

Finally, I encourage others to check their bills carefully. I know of at least a few instances (my bill as well as someone else's) where the deposit paid to OnPeak was not credited/deducted from the final bill at the Hilton.

When I made a reservation back in June, the only option was a partial ocean view ($225/night). As many of the nights were all sold out for the no ocean view ($195/night) and full ocean view ($245+). It was a bit frustrating, and I'm guessing many people booked somewhere else instead as I almost did.

Also, I noticed the waitlist (and getting notified when your preferred room/hotel was available) feature was eliminated by Onpeak as well. This would have been helpful here.

Thanks Jan. I added a link to the bracket next to the results link at the top of our site.

I'm a fan of 2. Here's my thoughts: http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/should-i-respond-2-clubs-or-1-spade/

Winning is also wrong if partner led from AQ97 and has two diamonds.

Sorry everyone about the emails not going out. We had some technical difficulties.

You are very welcome Martin, and we appreciate the sentiment.

Our thought behind that statement is that we'd like to get the site to at least a point where there is a revenue stream sufficient enough so that the site's survival does not depend on donations. If that is the case then donations can be used to focus on improving the site (as opposed to improving and maintaining as they do currently), and allowing us to add other features that users desire, but perhaps wouldn't otherwise be feasible.

That is an interesting idea which I appreciate you sharing, and we will discuss it. Realistically though, I wouldn't expect it anytime soon, since our resources are fairly limited, and we have other projects on our plate.

@Tanya, looks like you got it figured out. Thank you (and everyone else who has contributed).

@Jeff, thank you for bringing this to our attention. This should be fixed now.

Michael, I certainly understand where you are coming from. 10 years ago, I would have never imagined how expensive it is to maintain and improve a website.

One of the expensive tasks over the past year included upgrading Django (the web application framework we use), as the old version was no longer supported. Certain components of the site did not work with the newer version, and it took a large number of programming hours over several months to diagnose and fix the bugs. We also upgraded the whole site to https so that it was more secure. Also, as the traffic on the site has grown, we've had to spend a fair amount of time trying to improve the performance.

Our expenses consist of one contracted part time developer, who is paid (the site owners that contribute to development and other tasks are not paid). Otherwise our largest expense is to Amazon Web Services for hosting where we pay based on the resources we use. The amount of traffic, content, and the computing power the applications on the site use means we are paying $1000 to $2000 a month (and I expect this will continue to increase). We also have to pay a sizeable amount to Sendgrid (so that we can send all the notification emails without getting flagged by email providers as a Spammer).

We just added multiple answers and ranked polls. Looks like they only support 16 options at the moment (which is why there is the 500 error) - sorry about that. We will try to get this fixed soon.

Marshall, I disagree. Partner probably knows you have values, since if West had a good hand he would have done more than bid 2 initially. It's not unreasonable for Partner to have a stiff heart too for this auction: perhaps a 5134.

Don't lead a spade. Typically, you have something else you really want led.

Even if it is a misfit, I have a great source of tricks for 3NT. Partner rates to have at least one club. Obviously, if partner has a club void we could have problems, but we've been down before.

Partner also knows we are vulnerable at IMPs. I expect him to raise with hands that have two working cards (side kings count from partners evaluation perspective). A 5th spade and an ace is close to enough. With 3s I don’t expect to miss any games that are better than a finesse at IMPS and think we will be in most that just require a finesse.

I have no problem doubling with a stiff. If partner wants to convert with 4 good trumps, that is fine with me. With a void, I would do something else.

If you want good Chinese and Asian food, I’d recommend the area by Convoy Street. Lots of options there.
