As Eddie Kantar once said “The Hero is the sponsor's partner”.

Why is it not “cheating” for a wealthy sponsor to hire mercenaries?

A detailed explanation, that is only ‘mistaken’ in front of an AC.

The point about flying being torture is a large part of this.

How can a full explanation be “misinformation”?

2d. The higher the probability that partner has a doubleton/singleton heart, the more illjudged it is to play 2d as GF.

3nt puts the spade suit in plain view; bad idea. Agree about 2 clubs being better than 2 diamonds.

Kit, you have often mentioned puppet stayman in this series. Any particular reason for switching?

The “controversy” is that Fantunes were removed from the Italian core by fiat, not for any competitive result. If you're interested in reading between the lines about this, go here:

It is clear, I submit, that the Monaco project is happening only because of the goofiness within the Italian NBO.

I was quite surprised to hear Larry hold up the current Italian core as a paragon of true nationalism. Two members of that team live in some other country.

My real point is that national identity is an accident of birth. In an increasingly trans-national world, the main event of the bridge calendar should be the trans-national teams. Get together with whoever you like. Or recruit whoever you like. Let the superior mercenaries prevail.

Congratulations to always fierce Monaco for assembling the best 4 man knockout lineup in the history of the hobby.

Was anybody else astonished by Larry Cohen on BBO? He turned petty squabling among Italian bridge sponsors into a triumph for nationalism, and forcibly wrenched Madala and Norberto from South America and Barcelona back to where they once belonged.

AT BAM, this seems easy. Try to find a mistake.

As to clocks at international championships, isn't there a simpler solution? These video devices that we just saw would allow reconstruction. No charges for system inquiries.

In long IMP events, making your opponents use their synapses is probably part of the event.

1. You told us by video that you took a bunch of 15-1 on USA2. Did you hedge after reaching the finals? What was the available line on the finals?

2. Does the Dutch team do anything better than the rest of the world? Constructive methods? Obstructive methods? Defensive carding?
