Playing the last round of a swiss. The top two teams are playing each other. I am playing a different game if I am up 18 or down 18 on a 20 point scale. I would not consider either dumping either playing somewhat conservative or wild.

I reread above
“I would make the claim that while the sample of people who responded to the two age related questions is small, we represent the 20% percent that generate the 80% of the ACBL, or a subset of it.”

Less than 1000 votes in polls referenced.

Now I play quite a bit but there are a large subset of players who play significantly more than I do contributing more financially to ACBL than I do that are not part of the bridge winners community.

David, How did you determine the Bridgewinners community “really care about bridge, i.e. that spend time and money on the game.”
When I saw some members comment on why they may not have gone to Orlando do to conditions and price I went to ACBL live to see what other tournaments they may have gone to recently to evaluate if hotel cost was truly issue on where/how much they played. Some went to many tournaments independent of price and others went to none unless they were local.

@Michael, my son's high schools entered a robot event this past weekend. At end of event they had an elimination tournament taking the top 24 teams. The event was run as random draw 2 vs. 2 during the day. #1 had first pick and chose #2 both who had not lost an event all day. When they had 8 teams of 2 drawing this way they the #1 team picked again. My son's team ended up 5th. They played best of 3. The only rule was whoever sat out first round had to play 2nd round and then 3rd round was wide open. My sons team beat the 4 seed and then got to play the #1 seed. I told them they should play there weakest team in round 1 when opponents played there strongest 2 then they could have a stronger team in rd 2. Instead of being underdog, underdog and underdog again. We changed lineup to no chance, favorite, underdog. We gave away a life that I believe gave us the best chance of winning. Close but could not beat their strongest lineup.

I did not consider this dumping since I thought gave us best chance to win and did not impact anyone else's results but the 2 teams playing each other.

When we would duplicate boards before machines typically you only verified your own hand and assumed each of the other 3 did also.

Where is option:
I wouldn't be in this position since I would have opened 2H in first seat. Not my choice.

Yes I believe rules were all 4 were at fault when you hand dealt. It seems like if EW hands are correct and NS have a card interchanged we all would know who fault is with. However seems like if I was to fault the board in round 1 I expect penalty would have gone to table that sorted the board.

Wow this sounds very similar to discussions about poker in 2004-2005. Live poker will no longer exist and all will play on line.

I actually looked at acbl website. Never let membership lapse and lowest point total was 3.33 in a year. There were several years when kids were in sports that I played as a fourth in a lot of swisses at tournaments but only the Sunday since kids were free from sports that day.

Although I believe there are to many tournaments. Yes I believe if there were less tournaments attendance per tournament may increase but not total. In the past 10 years I have been to probably 8 to 10 Nationals with all 3 last year. NAP qualifier in Spring, Son wanted to go to youth in Summer and Local Orlando National in Fall. I do not believe if they held less Nationals that I would have gone to more.

Our club has 2 night games. 1 averages about 10 tables and the other 5. There was talk of just playing one night (combining games was thought) but about 2 tables of players played in both games and some players would not be able to play the night that they may choose.

So they could have closed down the night of the 5 table game and the 10 table game would become about 12.

Peg, I had similar situation once in a national pair game. We were sitting at one table we made boards and then were moved to another as well as opponents to fill in spaces. When we go there the boards had just been moved to play. 2 boards were made by new opponents and passed before we were even assigned to the table. We played the afternoon session which we didn't think was that bad nd had a 44% with a round to go. Went to dinner not waiting for recap and when we returned we found out we had a 2 board penalty since boards had been reversed when they were made. Seemed like we did not deserve penalty but alas those are the rules we were told.

Sorry if I am 4th it would be to my advantage to dump to a team that could come in 8the and be considered weaker than my team.

I'm a weak team in 4th place guaranteed to make the final 8. The strongest team has locked up first. I am playing a weaker team then myself(there are some) having the best day of their lives in the final round on the bubble. Now it seems more of an incentive to let this team beat me to reduce chance that I play the strongest team which presently I could d by winning.

Actually doubled grand down 7. I opened 2 hearts on QJxxxxx opponents bid to 7 N which partner doubled. I would have led a spade on auction but was void so led Q of hearts. Partner held AKxxxx and we took first 7 tricks. Both opponents had 9 card solid black suits and both que bid hearts along the way. Neither could envision the other void.

Yu, I recently chaired the Orlando Regional. I was captain of my team. Put my name first on line 3 and when entry went in I was at the top. I did not sit thru all the comparisons since I was dealing with other issues. Noise outside playing area nd such. I did not turn in all results but 1 round I returned and was told we won. I checked with other team and turned in result. I did not verify that all comparisons were correct. I assume that since teammates and opponents both agreed that result was correct.
