The heart of the problem is that teachers explain a convention (not just this one) but fail to explain the alert/announce requirements that go along with it.

The club I play at is a not-for-profit and is a membership organization. Lifetime membership costs $50 and gets you a $2 per session discount in open games and voting rights. 99 percent plus of the folks in the open games are members. The limited games not quite that many. The beginner games we don't push membership until we have them hooked. They play at the member rate.

1) Simple answer - because no one has written the code into ACBLScore to make it work. I have 4 programs that do a good job of running a Swiss with bridgemates but the scores have to be transferred to ACBLScore
2) I wish it were the only strange “feature” in ACBLScore.

Wizards of the Coast makes their money selling new decks of cards with new monsters, new powers, etc. I quit playing Magic the Gathering when I realized that I would be spending lots of money just to play at home with friends.

Imagine if the ACBL added a new suit (Polka Dots) and you couldn't buy the cards from anyone else. And next month it was another addition so you had to buy new cards again.

Not at all a good comparison.

Directors don't get $189 per session, that is what the ACBL charges. Some of that goes to the director, depending on the director's pay rate.
$91.50 per diem in very few places (like New York City). Here in midwest its usually more like $50 or $55.
I have no idea how this compares to Canada, or Mexico.

In most double elimination tournaments if the winner of the loser bracket beats the undefeated winner of the winner bracket they play a second match for the championship. Double elimination means you aren't out until you lose 2 matches.

We have been running two monitors for 10+/- years. One is a standard monitor, the other is a large screen TV. We use a home-grown program to display the scores calculated from the BridgeMate database. Have had the problem described in the OP.

Some ACBL pop-ups show up correctly centered in the main monitor, others center across both monitors.
Also, don't turn a monitor on or off while ACBLScore is open. This will crash ACBLScore.

Don't open two instances of ACBLScore at once pointing at the same files. The result is damaged files, sometimes beyond repair.

Thank you for your work as an EMT.

You are so right about everyone being trained. First Aid was a requirement when I was in High School (1964) but I don't think CPR was discussed. I had CPR/AED training many times during my work years, and here at the club.

I can't agree with you more.

Last time I was CPR qualified it was “hands only.” AEDs these days are nearly foolproof. They talk you thru the process and only deliver a shock if their sensors determine it is necessary/useful. And yes, you should have your directors and others trained and you really should have an AED on site. They are not expensive.

Unit 193 - Southern Indiana and Western Kentucky sits between Indianapolis and both Louisville and Cincinnati.

By the way, Indy's finals are on Sunday.

The Unit 130 (Central Indiana) finals draw very few players from outside the Indianapolis area and I have never seen anyone from outside our unit at the finals. We don't share a common border with either Cincinnati or Louisville, so there is really no overlap.

Haven't run one without the computer, but I remember watching the ACBL directors matching for 40 or 50 teams. The directors here were quite good at it. I wouldn't want to try.

James did quite will on another trivia game show “The Chase” a few years back and his wife won about $30,000 on “Who wants to be a millionaire” in 2014.

Mostly when I read about team leagues it is a number of teams within one club. Though what you describe seems interesting. Wouldn't work here - we have one large club and several small one-game-a-week clubs. Nearly everyone who plays at a small club also plays at the big one.
