What is 2C-2D-3S?

I believe many forcing club players have this as 6 and 5.

In my favourite partnership we play a forcing club system with weak notrumps and no Drury so…

2 is game forcing and shows real clubs
3 is the dreaded Bergen 4-card limit raise
4 is a splinter
5 would be Exclusion Blackwood but in 10 years this has never been bid :-)
A raise to 2 is a 3 card limit raise. With a square minimum opener and three trumps I’ll just raise to game and hope it’s enough.

Since we open light 11-15 HCP I can’t remember ever responding 2 to a third seat opening bid that I couldn’t have opened 2 in first seat but if I did it would be natural and forcing.

I know it’s matchpoints but I’m still rebidding diamonds with this hand

I suppose Oscar Wilde got his “Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative” 44 yeas later from Emerson

We open this hand 2NT to show 5/5 or better in the minors, but that will require a forcing club system of some kind

Playing 15-17 NT I think I’d open 1. For me, the Q is of doubtful value.

We could do that for sure, but we rarely open Mini Roman. Our 2 opener only promises 5 clubs, and we play weak no trumps, so those two bids come up much more often.

I just PM’d you our system notes for Mini Roman . I’m not a huge fan of it either but we have to play it in our forcing club system. For example, we can’t open 1 when weak (11-15 hcp) and 4 4 4 1.

I switched to weak NT after reading Andy Stark’s book 12 years ago and highly recommend it.

I’m tempted to upgrade this hand and open 1 with this.

I played the Mini no trump for years and loved it, however, I do think it’s easier to manage in a forcing club system. For me, if I’m playing 2/1, I prefer a weak no trump (12-14 HCP) and Forcing Stayman, but to each his own I guess.

I use BBO on an old iPad and if a bid is highlighted you can press on it to see what it means.

So nice to see a Precision auction on here. We would bid that exactly the same way.

I was taught 2/1 about 15 years ago but I only play it against the robots now (I play a forcing club system).

The only info I have is fairly old, “Understanding 1NT Forcing” by Marty Bergen and Paul Thurston's “25 Steps to Learning 2/1”. I can't find anything about this bid in either of them.

Anyways, I suppose this is out of date now. I have never heard of the jump to 3 clubs in this auction.

I would prefer to treat it this way:

P P P 1
P 1NT P 2
P 3

I was taught that this was invitational with at least 6 clubs.

Tell that to the robots!! They show it as forcing to me.

It's just the way GIB plays. I'm not saying it's right…

Ummm… no. 1NT would be forcing, so why not that?
