A big part of the problem (imo) is the crowd that wants to be as lenient as possible to confessed cheaters. It almost seems like the cheaters were told: ‘Confess and we’ll toast you, sing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGU8_9UuSM4 and see you in 2 years!' The WBF seems to be led by that crowd.

A majority of the bridge community is still in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pojL_35QlSI mode, though, and rightly so.

Gene,

I ask questions publicly because I want public answers. People are always free not to answer my questions. This is a very important issue to a lot of people. This thread will get lots of traffic. This would be a great place to express his opinion IF HE FEELS SO INCLINED.

If he's not answering, I hope it's because he doesn't want to publicly express his opinion & not because the asker didn't ‘deserve’ an answer (whatever that means.)

The next anti-Europe comment I read on this forum will be the first. Anti-Americanism, on the other hand, is palpable.

And this IS ABSOLUTELY a time for patriotism. But part of patriotism is not wanting to have dishonor brought upon one's country by having it compete if it qualified by cheating.

I agree with the article.

I assume you've seen the evidence against the Polish pair, Steve. If not, ignore my questions.

In your opinion, is M. Aubry acting appropriately?

Should Poland withdraw?

Disclaimer: All of this is still conditional on my hypothesis.

ANY person who knowingly helps a team benefit from cheating or knowingly accepts a benefit derived from cheating is JUST AS GUILTY as the cheaters. They are accessories after the fact and need to be dealt with harshly.

Now, if the bridge bureaucrats won't do the right thing, maybe a consensus can be formed among the other teams, a letter circulated and signed, etc. A boycott if the lack of transparency isn't remedied. At least we'd know which teams wouldn't sign such a letter.

Are there no Butlers anywhere? Or we just have to wait until the end of the RR?

I'm dumbfounded at the lack of momentum for this topic.

I will preface all of this by saying that this is all conditional on the hypothesis that the Polish Pair were ‘disinvited’ because the evidence shows or they confessed to cheating in the qualifying event.

If Poland qualified for the Bermuda Bowl BY CHEATING (with a cheating pair on the team,) it must NOT be allowed to play in the Bermuda Bowl!

If M. Aubry allowed this to happen, he needs to be replaced in both of his positions.

If Poland did NOT qualify for the Bermuda Bowl BY CHEATING (with a cheating pair on the team,) the team and its NBO must make a statement to that effect, signed by all of the relevant parties, all of whom having reviewed the evidence against the ‘disinvited’ pair.

If we allow this injustice to stand, things will revert to business as usual.

Judging from the photos, the 2 youngest Open teams look like Canada and France. I'm curious which team has the youngest oldest member & the lowest mean age.

No, I think the moral of the tale is: Don't fuck with Bob Hamman!

GIB fails to duplicate sequences all the time. That's the part that annoys me, you'd think they'd be able to program that much.

(Unless it does in a robot individual. I just mean normal open room GIB.)

FWIW I think this whole subthread should be deleted if, as Boye says, there are ‘no proofs against the 5th pair’. That seems like a bit of a reversal on his part but fair enough. While it's impossible to unmention a team, we can at least do what Roland did and remove the reference now.

To the limited degree I passed on this faulty information about the ‘5th pair’, I too apologize. The one Bulgarian I know (slightly) is Marin Marinov & he's always struck me as a stand-up guy.

So … is Boye affiliated with this Bridge, a clean game Facebook page or not?

And I find the personal attack against Roland Wald (who I have rarely seen eye-to-eye with) equally outrageous.

“…but I would never trust this particular Dane as I happen to have irrefutable evidence that doing so is not a wise thing to do. The facts would prove me right in this case: his FaceBook page was edited in what appears to be an attempt to hide what was posted there … but you can still see traces of it.”

He repeated what he heard on that website. Then he found out the information might be incorrect. So rather than repeat a potentially slanderous accusation he deleted it. (I'm assuming all this, but it's what I'd do.)

Without entering the political discussion but responding to the outrageous personal attack against me:

This notion that I meant that Norwegians are generally more trustworthy than Bulgarians is preposterous.

'The Norwegian' is, of course, Boye (reference a previous comment in this thread by Nicolas Hammond ‘The Norwegian doesn’t bluff.') I was (obviously to those who don't have an axe to grind) saying I trust Boye's word over that of a random Bulgarian team member who might not even be in the loop.

And no, it's not between a Dane and a Bulgarian. The question on the website was asked in NORWEGIAN and answered in English. If the person who answered the question is NOT Norwegian (and not Boye himself, which I assumed,) mea culpa. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Specifically this:

“Per Tjelmeland Eg kan ikkje sjå nokon stad at Bulgaria er nemnt?

Bridge, a clean game No, but coming soon”

Meh, this is all getting too political. My naysayers are wrong but again, this is not a political forum and I shouldn't let myself be drawn into an off-topic discussion.

It's all how you choose to look at it. I'm pretty excited. My faith is resurging, not dwindling.
