I agree. Wouldn't you be delighted if partner responds 3H, short suit?

We had an ambitious project at Philadelphia's Bridge Club of Center City at the end of last century and invited top players to submit an autographed 8“ x 10” photo, plus a letter of inspiration for aspiring players.

Bobby Wolff's was the best, but George Rosenkranz sent in a very thoughtful letter, as I recall, that detailed many of his observations about the game. Those I remember:

“Bridge is a game for people smart enough to understand how to play it well and dumb enough to think that it's important.”

“For as much as you think you know about this game, volumes could be written about the things that you ignore.”

Our goal for this project was to accumulate 52 submissions and we ended up with over 80! Thanks to all of you reading this who participated in this fun project!

Nothing diminishes visions of sugar plum slams than 5-level minor preempts.

Well, who invented that useful convention?

Zia's a class act and eager participant in our “Wall of Fame” project in 2001.

He wrote a heartfelt letter telling us he took up bridge to befriend a particular woman he had his eye on. He lost the girl but found his love!

Bobby Wolff has such honor as well. The younger generation has Boye Brogeland, among others.

I bid 2h, negative free bid. Non-forcing.

I am frequently surprised how often “4th from the top of longest and strongest” sets the contract, even when holding a weak hand.

I love Bobby Wolff! He's contributed to our game in so many ways.

I'd be happy to push the opps up to the 3 level, then pass.

My pd and I play losing trick count theory. Preempts at the 3 level usually promise 6 losers. The south has 7 losers (for purists, 6 given the Qs), so I would bid game.

What's the punch line here?

I don't think South has any business showing a limit raise or better with opener over him. How much are those kings worth? Also, no shape to delight partner.

IMHO, 2H more accurately describes his hand in this auction.

The “South” blamers equal out the “North” blamers; I think this is an unlucky result.

This is best played using good ol' Partnership Agreement.

Weak NT gets you to game. Best place to be in teams, don't you think?

Agreed. That being said, how do you envision the west hand?

My inadvertent insult:

We were playing at our vacation home club and came across who I thought I recognized as a world-champion player playing with an unknown older woman.
“Are you Mr. ‘X’?, I queried.
”Yes,“ he replied.
Starstruck, I continued, ”May I ask who your partner is?“
”Why, that's Mrs. ‘X’,“ he stated.
Turning to her, I bonered, ”You must be very proud of your son."

Alas, she was his wife.

What I like the most about Eddie is that he goes out of his way to compliment you when you play a hand well.
