I think we should be quite unlucky to get doubled after this start from the opps.

3N is a huge favourite to make with normal splits.

You can, but you might not have a penalty double of all three suits. Say 1(543) or 2(542). You also lose the takeout double after pass then double of their suit.

What would you suggest XX is better used for after 1-X ?

Well, you tell us, I don't know this gadget, surely there must be a follow up, if third hand bids :)

Usually, Cuebid (4) = I like your suit, 5NT = Choice of slams.

Overcall in spades the first time. The hand is fine, if partner raises spades I have no problem with that. I hate this guessing at a higher level the second time around.

Too technical imho. Just bid 2 with that good suit. X then 2 would be more appropriate with and empty 4 card suit.

Also I think the sequence should show more. They may raise to 3 and then 3 from partner would be annoying. With a complete minimum for the double, one should be prepared to pass any NF response from partner.

We shouldn't be leading an honest spade.

D is ugly but necessary.

Pretty absurd standpoint as the case is presented, since we are told nothing at all about what NS stated/claimed at the table.

Only that TD was summoned and later emerged with a decision.

Looking forward to the article explaining that this is an easy 2N opening, planning to pass 3 or 3 :)

2. Huge potential if partne has a fit for one of our suits. Partner is unlikely to be weak with very long spades.

Would pass. I have a normal hand for michaels 2. I will not punish partner for showing his fit.

TD should offer south the option of taking back his last pass since the play had not started yet.
Laws 21B1A and 22B1.

Did TD do that?

6 obv. If 4 naked aces would have put partner in a grand mood, I know of a gadget he could have used.

7 should at best depend on the spade doubleton being magical or a finesse. Partner rates to have a very distributional hand low in high card strength. 5 is not a slam try.

4. Good hand in context with 7 diamonds and controls. When partner didn't bid 3N over 2N I wont play notrumps.

Ok :) No doubt the convention could get us too on a particular deal :)

But not on that one, because we have an unfair counterdefense: natural bidding. When they interfere with 2way bids, we bid what we have ourselves. So 3 would be natural, just as 2 then 3 by responder would be two natural bids. We'll have to live without a punt-cuebid, but we are in gameforcing auctions so they are not badly missed.

So in that way 2way conventions annoy (we have no cuebid). But I fear 1way bids more, because they enable advancer to bounce more often, and THAT hurts.

Some 2way bids are too easy to double, say:
1 - 2 = H or S+C
Responder can double with general values enabling either hand to whack them when they scramble.

There is no sequence to get out in 4m after a 2N opener. That is not practical.

East has a normal raise to 2. 3 trumps and 7 points. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Pass. Too little offensive potential. A point trap. 2 will be a disaster opposite a misfit, whether they double or not.
