Roy, I guess I was merely suggesting that the committee (of my dreams) would do the proving. In a way, I don't even think it would require much of a defense. I hope I'm not being difficult…I'd ask this sincerely: Is it possible for a committee of 10 of the best bridge players in the world to get guilt or innocence wrong?

Michael R. - you can have the last word (we could probably go on like this forever).

Michael R, If the committee is “real and proper” one should be able to bring anyone before it. If exonerated it would only be beneficial to the pair. Rumors will exist in any case, so the feared damage would already have been done.

More simply, I would think one would be thrilled to prove the rumor mill wrong and go on with their lives without any more suspicions. I know I would.

Tom, To put it simply, I don't think it's remotely possible that a world class committee could wrongly convict someone of cheating. All the rest of it is just wordplay in my opinion.

It's a surprise to me that any world class player wouldn't have (at the very least) heard a rumor or two about F-N prior to this.

Yes, but the good news Sigurbjorn is that you still had your shirt on by the end of the match. They didn't leave most with even that .

I'm not a fan. Guess I've gotten old enough to be “old-fashioned”. I enjoy holding the cards, sitting at a table with people, etc. Seems unfortunate for the game to be directed by the bad guys.

Mel, That's really incredible about the recorder forms. Just shows how broken the system is. Hopefully, was…..

Tough position for them….I know a gal (close to me) who has told me something many times. Those who benefit from the system are not apt to change it. If only she weren't always so damn spot on.

Wasn't around to see this news last evening. An incredible job by all involved. I just wanted to throw out my feelings about this having played on a team with Fantoni and Nunes for a bit.

Firstly I posted this in the thread “Boye's Call for Action” some 3 weeks ago…(in part):

“I played on a team sometime in the last 10 years which won a National title and had some other success. I'm pretty darn sure I wouldn't have, but for the “help” of a certain pair which is suspected even now. I'd gladly give back my title too. Perhaps this will be our next story.”

Strangely, I think only one or two even noticed my post.

I was a newbie to the professional bridge world back in 2004. Obviously I'd been playing for many years, but as an amateur (many of us were stock options traders until the early 2000's). I was hired to play on a team with Fulvio and Claudio, as well as Peter Bertheau and Fredrik Nystrom. My partner was Christal Henner.

We managed to win both the Mitchell Open BAM and an NABC Open Swiss - 2004 and 2005. I remember in the BAM that F-N had an incredible last session scoring something like 21 out of 26 playing with Peter and Fredrik. I do believe that my Swedish teammates were also amazed at the results in that last session.

By the way, this is in no way disparaging to the others. Christal, a wonderful partner to sit across from, won the Vanderbilt shortly thereafter, and also finished 2nd in a Rosenblum. Fredrik and Peter are world champions, great players and terrific people. They even forgave me for calling them my “Swiss teammates” once.

I'm pretty sure there were rumors about F-N even then, but more softly toned. As with Fisher-Schwartz, this was talk for the bar more than anything.

As time went on, I would sometimes ask F-N about a lead or a defense. I would get mumbled answers or the fellows would lapse into Italian. I did feel something was fishy, but hadn't ever heard a specific suspicious hand.

It's all somewhat unreal now. Not surprisingly they were hired away shortly thereafter (I believe by Jimmy Cayne but I could be wrong). Then I presume Pierre Zimmerman offered more and they were on their way again.

Since then I've lost many matches to them and never felt comfortable sitting at their table. One has an instinct for these things even without the rumors. Tempos never “feel” right…thinking goes on at the “wrong” time, etc. etc.

Happy to know that justice, while slow, seems to be on it's way. I'd gladly give the titles back by the way. I suspected for quite a while that I didn't deserve them. Interestingly, when I posted the above 3 weeks back, I thought I'd only won one event with them - when writing today I discovered we had won two. Sheesh…you know, at this rate…I'll be minus titles soon! :)

I wouldn't be flattered by the attention Hanan. I suspect many are simply annoyed with you at this point. One might wonder if your stance would be the same if Fisher-Schwartz were from say, Norway…and whether your opinion would then be public. I guess it will remain one of life's (not so important, as you intimate) mysteries.

I can IMAGINE this fencing going on forever…and they kicked Gabby off…sheesh! I just asked her if I had permission to post this - she said, “good thing I'm banned”!

You said it Simon…I actually can't look anymore. I believe it's because it's such an inhuman thing to do when you really think about it.

Terrific Kit - it's actually quite the thing to watch. Incredible how they got away with it. They would have against me too…I guess we all have to wake up! :)
