Yes Rick…also, you could use a blindfold to great effect.

I'm pretty sure there's a service out there to help with this. For $9.99 a month, you can have any offensive posts seen ANYWHERE on your screen dissolved automatically within 5 seconds of appearance. You can find more info about this at PeterGraves. com.

Oh, and Chris - here's something I've learned…people always clap for the wrong reasons. In other words, I disagree with you.

My trader's instinct tells me that if Gabrielle's comment received more flags than any other, chances are there was something of real merit in it. You've banned one of the people with a true interest in cleaning up bridge. If that's the community you want, I guess that's the community you'll get. Been working beautifully so far. Was that comment ok Eugene…or did I upset someone?

Ha Timo - someone pointed out to me that you were being sarcastic. Rereading - I'd say yes. I guess you can label me obtuse. :)

At least Gabrielle is trying to make the bridge world a better place. I assume by your question you're trying to silence a whistle blower…why? (If you tell me it's because she's gotten into a political discussion, I can only say that she didn't start this part of the thread)

Really Timo…(I'm not denying it)…I've never heard of an instance. Who was convicted of cheating and was actually innocent?

Interestingly, I'm not sure I'd lead it if you told me partner had a 4 card suit.

Funny Magnus - when I was watching the T9xx Kxx xxx xxx lead video, I saw that Ron placed the board in a position I've never put it in…way up and to the left. I had a feeling it asked for that but was too lazy to look over everything. :)

Not a great example Roger imo. He knows if the auction dies here, no biggie. If it continues, no problem finding hearts.

Roger - It's really just my frustration at someone sticking up for these fellows even after it's KNOWN to (let's say) 99.5% of those who are capable of judging them. It was not my intention to be high-handed. The truth is that I was including Hanan in the world-class community and felt his view was tainted by something “non-bridge” at this point.

Ish - nicely compiled and written…thanks.

You ask how is it possible they're still playing together three years later. Actually, the answer is pretty clear. As others have said, the system is broken. Players may or may not turn in recorder slips, but they often sit on things or don't want to get involved. The ACBL either doesn't care or doesn't know how to handle the problem. I really like Suzi Subeck, but to suggest that now, all of a sudden, we're going to get this together and prosecute correctly is a bit silly. Where have they been?

I also don't believe the “committee” idea is going to be much more effective (see Larry Cohen's article). I have said I'd be willing to be judged by one -sure, but having thought about it a bit more, I'd guess the committee thing is not a great idea. Is the problem really that we don't have bridge expertise to judge the cheaters? Also, just how will this committee be non-political? No…the problem is one of will. The will to find these cheaters and get rid of them.

I am suggesting something akin to what happened in baseball some hundred years ago. Baseball was being overrun by gambling and payoffs (effectively cheating). They brought in one man to fix things. That's what we need here. We need an ombudsman or public advocate who has no political ties and who's not going to give a hoot what others think. I am suggesting running this with an ombudsman or public advocate.

Personally (don't fall off your chairs) I would suggest the woman I live with, Gabby Sherman, or someone like her. What I mean is, a bulldog, a seeker of truth and justice…as well as someone who doesn't give a s**t if no one likes her, who doesn't care what people will think. We need a straight shooter - someone who's willing to get this done without fear and without politics entering the equation. The methods of the ACBL have failed. It's time to try something different and better.

Disagree completely about the heart lead Neil. Diamond ace just can't be wrong at imps. Heart and declarer may throw losers.

Hanan, Please explain to me how leading a club from AQxx xx J9xx Axx vs 1N all pass and hitting partner's KTxxx is not “convincing”. I won't even go into (I am of course) that once again NO player would lead a heart from ATxx xxx Ax Axxx vs 3 all pass. No fear that your tricks can go away on dummy's good hearts? I reiterate - this lead is IMPOSSIBLE, especially since you have an easy diamond ace lead. To catch partner with AKxxx of hearts is ummm, serendiptous? By the way, I'm not even great at opening leads but this is obvious. Really, I think you might want to reexamine your position.

Timo, I'm surprised there was much discussion about this. I'm not as dogmatic as others, but I don't see how a passed hand can ever force an overcall into a forcing pass situation.
