I see Nick…interestingly I was once playing against Justin Lall and Bob Hamman in a national pair game (with Marty Fleisher I believe). Bob was on lead against 4M and took a while to lead a minor. Justin won and returned the suit, thereby losing a trick (Bob had a doubleton).

I was dummy and was sloppily analyzing things, but thought Justin could have figured out the right shift. I was surprised…because damn him, he freaking never makes an error against me (I don't know, maybe not against anybody). :)

Apparently I'm not very quick though, because when I started to ask Justin about his de…he immediately muttered, "Couldn't shift…I knew Bob didn't have a stiff" (by tempo).

Pretty cool.

Phyllis, what exactly did I say here to upset you so much?

Thanks Gavin - Sorry to be off topic here, but great showing in the BB. Was very exciting watching all the way through - if your matches were sporting events, I think a couple would have been eligible for “Instant Classics”.

Ha Nick - I know at least one person who wouldn't be surprised by whatever's coming. I did say up thread that the world was upside down. :)

Eugene, I guess I'd say somewhere between the two. I do think the ignore and/or blocking abilities should be enough to allow everything without the flag mechanism. However, I definitely think I've stated my view on this topic too many times. I have some sense of when it's time to let it go. Somebody shuffle and deal please.

Would be interesting to know whether those who attack Boye for his actions have noticed that he is the main reason/impetus that the bridge world no longer has 4 of the biggest cheating pairs in history. Or that his actions will go far towards making the game clean for others. I suspect this gets swept under the rug when ego defenses come into play.

Nick, I think people would be surprised, especially after all that's gone on in the past two months, to find how much active ethics is practiced. At least that's been my experience at the higher levels.

I play lots of regionals against folks like Brad Moss, Justin Lall, John Kranyak and Vince Demuy, Ish, etc. etc. They police themselves all the time. Same can be said in the National KO's against players like Boye or Zia. I just picked out a few names - there are many more who bend over backwards to do the right thing. It's a real pleasure to play in that kind of atmosphere.

I don't remember the last time I saw a quick singleton shift at a high level.

Now, placing a lead horizontally….well, apparently that goes on under my nose all the time.

I must admit, I didn't see this entire subthread. Is it just me or is it sometimes difficult to read everything? Peg, Ken, Timo, Ed, Alex…whoever….

Peg - I think we're talking apples and oranges. This is not the real world. In the real world, opinions are not the name of the game.

I am defending the right to post one's opinion…period. I don't care what the opinion is. Here one can ignore, block, leave the site, etc. This is a forum for discussion . I don't like to see opinions and statements controlled whether they are insulting or attacking or pleasant and nice. I certainly don't like to see them controlled by a number of other people who differ with my tone or views.

I guess I may have been feisty about this (I'm sure you'd call it something else). I don't remember once attacking a specific person in this thread. I attacked the flag methodology and the idea of censorship. I defended my view often with sarcasm. Sarcasm is my idea of passionate humor and it is my response to what I consider condescension or high-handedness.

Ed, seriously…where did I take my frustration out on anybody ? The closest you can come is when I said a generic “you” when discussing where to stick the flags. Perhaps it wasn't the best way to say it, but c'mon…that just can't be a big deal here! Don't you want passion at the very least?

I guess I should have said this from the start, just so it's clear. BW has not only the right to do what they want, but I'd expect them to do so. It's a business after all. However, I don't have to like it and I am going to say so (at times) until they (or you all) bar me from here. Once again, I'll say that BW is a great website. Just look at what's been accomplished in the past two months. I can't prove it, but I suspect I'd still be playing against the cheaters next tournament were it not for BW. (of course the website is terrific in other ways too)

I'm sorry to have disappointed anyone who thought I was just some nice guy sitting at home staring at his sportsmanship award. I suspect you'd still find that same fellow at the bridge table.

Boye - thanks for all :)

Assuming you're referring to me…I'm sorry you're so hurt by my words Brenda. Sort of hard to believe that my view of flagging is hurting anyone.

Artur - I heard lots about the first 3. There were clear rumors re Fantunes, F-S and P-S…I didn't know anything about Balicki-Zmudzinski. Feel a bit silly about that considering I often played them in Florida regionals.

Roger, Just so it's clear…I didn't know F-N were cheating when I played with them in 2004-2005. I did start to suspect and hear some things just about the time they were getting another gig. But it seems obvious to me to cede the titles I won with them. Not that I'm any great martyr here - don't profess to be one, but I surely don't want anything I wasn't entitled to. I'm guessing many others feel the same but perhaps just don't feel it's necessary to say so here. Now if you want my masterpoints back….well, I'll have to think about that! :)

Ken, I would say you're making my point. No one is “shooting” anyone here. These are words, not guns. A gun you can't dismiss or ignore.

On the other hand, I'm not even sure about that - if I could just block his posts (I think you can here, no?) that would be fine too.

I suppose if someone were invading the conversation with totally off-topic points, I'd have an issue. What I mean is, if we are discussing how to play Axx opposite QT98x and a fellow keeps interjecting that the Federal Reserve should raise interest rates, I'd expect BW administrators to disallow his posts. However, if he called me a moron and said I should die for my statement that the right play ace and low to the queen, I don't want any flagging or administrative intervention. He should be able to say that.

Simply put, I don't want opinions (if at all relevant to the topic at hand) flagged, deleted, censored…what have you.
