Thanks. Don't know why, but I must have missed the whole thing. Best wishes.

Apologies to all of you may be sick of N5, if that's what “killed to death” means, but I am seeing this layout for the first time. When I huddle and pass after a 7NT bid by RHO, I am telling my partner the following: “if there is a lead that will set this contract and you find it, the result (after hours wasted in the appeals process) will be the same as if you led something else, so just throw a card on the table.” Isn't this treatment universal?

We used to play Swinfeld over Kranz, but dropped it since almost nobody plays Kranz anymore. If you are still with us, Lou Sasselli, God bless you.

Robb I could be nuts, but in 1969 I think the issue was race. While I am at it, do any of you west coasters out there remember Ernie Rovere? Fastest manual matchpoint scorer that ever lived. Serious bad breath. Early, uncredited, and ultimately champion/advocate for desegregating the tournament game. RIP

An idiotic discussion. If you believe the statistics, 80% of all current bridge players will be dead by 2050. If that isn't doing our part to save the planet, I don't know what is.

No. The number one crime in bridge period is bidding vulnerable on dogshit.

Okay so I am a geezer, but 2S vulnerable at IMPs is insane. I see no excuse for the bid unless NS were about to concede anyway or South was playing with someone else's money. “Frisky” doesn't come close. Merry Christmas all you kamikazes out there.

The stupid double started the whole mess. That rag is a 1D overcall, period.

I am glad to see you will be doing this away from the hotel. If there's anything I can't stand it's seeing young people having a great time.

Hi, Barry. At what point do you make up your mind whether or not you have something surprising to say, and isn't it often extremely difficult to do this in tempo? I would think there would be extraordinary tempo restraints on all Smith users, regardless of which version they use. At my age it would be a risky tool.

Something I should know but don't: does the ACBL (as opposed to WBF and USBF) have any anti-doping rules, banned substances, etc?

I don't see how you can go back at this point. The Blue Ribbon is finished as a premiere event; sub-basement qualifying standards and getting rid of the 2 section 3 board final was bad enough, but the Soloway has now put the final nail in the BRP coffin. I forget what the Platinum qualifying entails; if it is 1,000 Platinum Points, I guess that at least eliminates Flight Z players, but you are right it should be tougher. All of this leaves the two major KO's and the magnificent, wonderful, pure, beautiful Reisinger, now under attack for only one real reason-too many sponsors are chicken to play in it.

Too young to retire. 6 years is a long time but HOF awaits. Many thanks.

Great stuff, Avon. Keep at it, keep at it, and keep at it. Come on Carlo, tell me what you did. Don't be afraid. Do you think I'd make my sister a widow? Now who approached you…was it Tattaglia or Barzini?

Hi Kevin. God this makes me miss rubber bridge. Resigned from the Regency last year (after 40 years!) because the rubber game just died. Being an asshole at duplicate is nowhere near as much fun. Best to you.

Sorry Richard I was kidding. I thought I recognized this hand from a rubber bridge game in San Francisco circa 1977.

Hi Eric. This is what happens when you play with Reitman. Were you South or North?

In his piece on Crane, Grant Baze used the expression, “brutal murder.” When I ragged him for employing a hackneyed redundancy, he told me about every bone being broken, which shut me up but good. Not 100% certain after all these years, but I think I heard the poker rumor from Don Krauss.

I have been told that when they found Barry every bone in his body was broken. If true, very unlikely it was some random guy on drugs. A psycho hitchhiker maybe, but a MO like that is not likely to quiesce for 34 years. A close and very plausible friend of Barry's heard that he had gotten into a poker game with the wrong people, thought he was being cheated, refused to pay, and was made an example of. As mentioned above, though, it is heartening to know that an arrest has been made and the cops are still on the case.
