♠ to dummy. K♥, ♥ ruff and run the trumps. I have a (very) unlikely double squeeze around ♣ or a minor suit squeeze. I will have to guess the ending and probably will just take a finesse. I also make on ♥QJx. Doesn't look like a great spot at MPs, but at least it has play!

I would duck a diamond first to potentially cut communication for a spade ruff. Also if I duck the diamond first I'm not down yet if rho started with A/Q/T doubleton and I misguess.

Well I thought it was a double at the table. Partner has something like qxx kx qjxx jxxx and (IMO correctly) chose to pass.
Unfortunately the opposing minor suit voids in the opponents hands mean that you're booked for at least 990. One hand proves nothing, but it was pretty painful.

Might well just bid 6♠ at the table. However, I'm not convinced that this is the right strain or level so 5n it is. Will I bid grand over 6♣, or bother to show the hearts over 6♦? Who knows. Would be a shame to play 6♥ in a 4-3 fit when partner's doubled on a 3343 18 count.

Well I've given it a couple of days, so I might as well give the whole hand. At the table I doubled which got removed to 6NT(xed for good measure). Both slams make, but the problem was that 6N is trivial while 6♥ requires some careful play (should make after a x IMO)

FWIW I thought double was a poor bid in retrospect, was looking for some confirmation.

Was thinking about the possibility that you might push them into 6n not making. Overall I think that gets balanced out by the fact that you might give them a roadmap to 6hx=.

Partner had Axx Akx KQxx xxx. We ended up settling in 3♦ for -300 on a ♣♥ crossruff by the opponents (clubs were 8-1 and hearts 6-0) This was not a good MP score

I must admit that my greatest fear about doubling was that partner would leave it in, or indeed x 3c if we pushed them there. Will update in a couple of days with what happened when I eventually did choose to x

The issue with picking is that frequently the cards dont end up back where they belong. Also there is something satisfying when you get to pull out lots of cards at once (ie 2N 6N)

Might not be best given the preempt on my left but I'll cash K♣ A♣ and then a club up after drawing trumps. Makes when RHO has Hx C are 3-3 or I guess the spades. How I tackle the spades depends on what's happened in the ♣ suit but I'll probably end up playing a spade to the J at some point. Not sure how to calculate whehter this is better than playing for Q/Tx(x) in spades but the added bonus of being able to fall back on the spades inclines me to go for line 1

I agree that dbl then 1n has flaws, mainly that you havent mentioned your hearts. However, this hand is surely worth 19 once you account for 5 good hearts and the 10♦. Jx of clubs isnt great but…

This is pretty much why I posted it. I did x at the table (evetually followed by 1NT) and several people suggested that 1♥ might have been better. The results thus far seem to agree with them
