Interesting you made it a Matchpoint problem when the hand occurred playing IMPs.
Particularly at this vul, not sure I see the merit in running, at any scoring. Even when pard had a 5 card minor, I am 3 off or so… Doesn’t need much to change to show a profit.
2NT would have been 2 places to play.
Prob just karma coming to get me - Hadn’t had a -470 in a while :)

player behaviour is driven by the cut-off set. If cutoff is 5 mins before game time, last minute entries will flow through then, if it is a few days or a week prior, those same players will sort themselves out then.

Setting records is always great!!
The Gold Coast event in Australia (18-25 Feb) currently has 482 teams entries and with concurrent side events entries 512 tables in total.

Methods may hamper the auction, but if LHO bids some number of spades, I think I would rather have started with 1D.

RHO and LHO have both shown ‘stuff’ in clubs, so will leave that suit alone… Striking gold elsewhere (including not conceding) seems more likely.

You are correct wallets are used rather than boards at larger events. I don't think this is a significant price to pay?

The Gold Coast event in Australia would frequently have 250-300 teams - all pre duplicated boards. I echo Avon's comment that I haven't played without them for 15-20 years.

It is 20 years since I shuffled a board regardless of the level or size of the field. I'm sure dealing machines aren't half the price in Aus compared to the U.S.

Hi David, I can't see anything in the BBO vugraph schedule….

We are very fortunate with our website and availability of scores. This is all down to the amazing work of Matthew McManus (CTD and scoring wizard) and Pauline Gumby (webmaster - and North from this deal)

Agree the lack of spade lead is a compelling inference that I missed at the table, being too consumed with trying to work out if I could combine chances.

Certainly crossing to the HQ and trying to tempt a cover from North has something going for it, but given this is not a restricted choice situation, I don't believe this is a percentage play

You are right Avon - I have misanalysed.

I played along Sartaj's line - knocking out CK, blocking hearts, then setting up diamonds. On further thought, having decided to drive to game, I don't think you are any worse off bidding 2H first. If partner does drive past 3NT due to extra shape it is probably right. Partner tanking over 2H might be the biggest down side

Nicely played and written up Sartaj - I was impressed / surprised to see the majority of tables made this contract on the same lead. Also keen to hear if I have much support for my choice of your 4th option and the merits thereof :)
