I'm wondering, does everyone play this as a transfer to hearts after a 3 Spade pre-empt….over 1nt,? What did the convention card say? Does this pair open 1n frequently with 5 card majors? Perhaps it was the announcer who announced the 4D bid as a transfer was wrong?

My 3N was not to play, was pick a minor… in this auction would this seem reasonable?

What bid would you make if you where behind screens and you didn’t hear or know anything partner alerted and explained? That’s the bid you should make.

maybe the question was too late? maybe should have asked before he bid 3H…. maybe dbl would have been better?

my comments were based on the article it indicates “CC says 2♣ shows majors.” it does not say if declarer asked to see the CC or if the CC was available.

Thats the thing, he didn't remember his defence, lead what he thought his agreement was giving up the ninth trick….., declarer is in a 3N contract without a heart stopper and he has nine tricks, but decides to go for overtricks IMHO based on a double shot, especially if he got information from the opps and sees that the CC disagrees….

Regardless of the fact that overtricks matter, there are now at least 9 tricks. AS declarer you can see that you are off probably off five tricks in hearts… so you get information from opposition and you see on the card it disagrees with his explanation….hmmm…. seems like getting greedy for overtricks now is taking a double shot… if your wrong you can claim damage, if your right your right….. I think it should be adjusted to original result.

So re-double in these situations always means doubt

I had a similar hand like this were LHO hesitates a good minute before doubling. He had an ace and 5 spades to the KTxxx. He said he was thinking of bidding 5 H with a stiff heart.

It is a 2 part question…at our table after I bid 3d lho passed the 16 count and rho passed, which I thought would be normal…. I kinda wish these, what would you bid, showed the entire hand after.

My vote would be Lady Doris Rhodes, she started a school for contract bridge in 1931; it was called the Lady Rhodes Bridge School.

I'm trying to think of a hand that would not make 6 if there is a club void…. take one club and make it a diamond and 1 club and make it a heart…. Trying to cash doesn't cost anything anyway….So I would be trying to cash the Ace…..Not only that, but the QJ are on the board, if you are trying to cash the A… your not setting anything up anyway, cause partner would have the K.
