If chess was regulated like this, we would still just play Giuoco Piano and Queen Gambit now. Maybe Ruy Lopez and Sicilian, but all other modern opening would not have a chance to see daylight.

Aviv,

I play a modified Precision that 1 open shows unbalanced hand 11-16 HCP. It is “not forcing” (partner could pass with weak long ) and it is not natural (it only guarantees a singleton/void and that would be even in ).

Another question with 1NT open is under current definition 7222 is not considered balanced hand and not allowed to open 1NT. In the proposed new definition, it seems to be allowed. Could someone clarify?

Maybe the word “opening pass” should be changed to “strong pass” or “forcing pass”.

Jan,

I don't have any problem with the screen itself, but I would suggest to mark a spot on the table where the card should be played. So player would always put the card be played in one spot (not vertical or horizontal, or in different places). This would also be useful if we use camera to capture the play and it could be focused to that spot. I suppose a lot of USBF games will be on Vugraph in the future. Someone might develop a program to use video capture to automate Vugraph that would make your job easier.

With this in mind, the screen design probably should consider where you want to mount camera and/or other recording devices.

Every player needs to play 50% of matches. If they play the shorter session, it would make them unqualified to overall award.

My question to BBO is when they will support the feature to allow player to create their own detailed CC file in Web version that was available in Windows version.

We need a common format of CC file that could be used everywhere.

@Jan - In old BBO client (Windows version, not the web version), you could define your CC for each bid (not ACBL-like CC) and save it to a file. The file is also uploaded into your BBO account. When you use it, opponent could see your entire system. I consider this is true “full disclosure”. Somehow BBO did not carry this feature when it migrated to current web-based client. I'm still using this with my regular partners on BBO. However it become difficult to maintain and update because I need to go back to old Windows client. What I envision is player could save their entire CC to a file on flash drive. So when they use these tablets they could load the CC files and opponents could see them. This would save our problems related to alert procedure and misinformation in the future.

If all bids are entered electronically, the alert procedure could also be changed to electronically. Players could pre-load their entire CC about every bids (you could do it on BBO if you have old version). On every bid, you could just move mouse to the bid and find what it means. There is no need for human alert.

You may also make it as a personal score sheet so players could bring their own tablet and use them in club games.

When you play games in a hotel or church basement, you don't have good network connections. So it is not a good idea to rely on telco network. Local Wifi is fine as long as TD could carry a router. However there is no guarantee it could connect to internet.

This program is interesting but it may not do the job we discussed here. It seems need to connect to a server over Internet. We need it to run standalone.

That's exactly what I thought. It could also receive hand records after game so you could check results while having dinner. It could save a lot of paper.

Why not just replace it with a Smartphone app? It could be a simple stripe down version of BBO app. It could be easily to add other features like acting as personal electronic score sheet.

Do not do it in ACBLscore. It is clumsy. Do it in BCS. It has a view of board results as they came in.

This should be an easy solution if you compare with how TD used to run tournament. Without Bridgemate players fill in traveler and TD enter them into ACBLScore. So you have two manual process to get the correct data into computer. Each one could catch/correct error.

With Bridgemate, we are completely rely on players to enter the data correctly. My suggestion is to add a duty to TD during game time to use BCS to monitor the game results.
