Does anyone remember in Upstairs, Downstairs when Mr. Hudson asked Lady Marjorie Bellamy asked if Her Majesty, Queen Alexandra would be coming to dinner? Her Ladyship mentioned to Hudson “no, Hudson, the Queen does not play bridge.” This was when I was still in high school at Fairfax (Virginia) and before I became an ACBL member.

Thanksgiving was my mother's most favorite holiday. Not so materialistic. It was probably the only time my husband had turkey.
This is one reason why I have yet to play in any Fall NABC (member since 1977).

Thank you so much, Jim. This is my opinion, but bridge is bridge period. People can also wear their school, or professional sports team outfits as well as Greek organization symbols.

I can mention many a tournament where every time, there was a general membership meeting and an award ceremony (brunch, luncheon, dinner). Also a game specifically for scholarships.

Hi Peg. I was looking earlier for New Jersey Bridge League's sectional in Woodbridge, Middlesex County. They only had Friday's scores. There are a few Nationwide super open pair scores from Friday evening and Saturday morning (December the 13th and 14th).

I do remember after 1no openers the bids 2, 2, and 2 were weak and to play. I had lots of problems introducing Dad to Stayman years ago, and also transfers. The jump to 3 and 3 showed 10 or more points and was forcing to game.

If I remember correctly, the senior events at the Hunt Valley regional were held at 10:30 and 3:00 and the open events were held at 1:00 and 7:00 (or 1:30 and 7:30). This was when Pat Wilson ran Hunt Valley. A lot of seniors at the time didn't feel comfortable playing against professional players. Pat always played with Mike Cappelletti or other local people. We also had the Tuesday Senior Swiss in the afternoon and evening (later morning and afternoon). The Thursday open Swiss (A-X and B-C) was afternoon and evening. Several people couldn't make time to play in the Sunday Swiss. To this day I still prefer afternoon and evening.

I'm 67 and prefer to play open. However, at the Summer North American Bridge Championships I do like playing the Senior Swiss on Monday and Tuesday. Last time was with Noreen Hickey-Schiappa in same unit as me along with Mary and Tennyson Johnson in the Charlotte Bridge Association.

Be careful all if you're allergic to seafood. Your lips could expand to look like a man named Willie.

Folks, when I was in NVBA I could actually walk to my sectional at the Ramada Inn in Rosslyn. Took bus or Metro to WBL sectionals, or arranged a ride.

Hi Gang. I joined the League in November 1977 and played with my cousin at Paul Cooper's game (just off the Metro Blue and Orange line from working at Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and taking the subway back to Rosslyn, Virginia. It was awesome. The first time I played competitive bridge we finished last. I also remember Tuesday evenings with Steve and Linda Robinson and for no extra charge Steve would analyze the hands. Steve was working at the Pentagon at the time as a computer specialist. After a job transfer to Social Security in Baltimore I became a member of the Maryland Bridge Association with my fiance (now husband). We would play at Bob Martini's game (Harford Park Bridge Club) where he and his former wife Kathy played the first and third Fridays and at Pat Wilson's game (Valley Bridge Club) at her house in Towson. Pat's game was in Towson on the second, fourth and sometimes fifth Fridays. It was incredible getting rating point slips.

I also have yet to play in any Fall North American Bridge Championships due to the time off around Thanksgiving with my family. If anyone wants me to spend one Blue Ribbon qualifier please holler.
