One assumes your opponents know you will double in this sequence which rather affects the calculation

Many years ago I played against a much much better pair & opened a 20-22 2NT. Partner passed with a nice 4 count (!) & they doubled to give us a top. All they had to do was sit there and we would have dished them up a good result.

I'd love to know how one proves such a thing. We have someone at our local club where the tables are very close together that a number of us are sure is doing this (amongst other things). If we could prove it we could do something but without proof what can one do?

I don't know but I was told that pass was appropriate so wanted to check how clear the 1NT that I thought should have been bid was.

But the scoring system does it for you. No calculations are needed so why wouldn't it do so for teams.

It is easy (not that I know how but the scorers found it easily enough) to score using the NGS as a handicap. There is an option in the scoring system to allow this which we have done for pairs.

There was a little thought before 3NT was bid. Not a huge hesitation but a clear pause.

Hardly rocket science. The EBU has allowed online entries to events prior to the start for some time. You pay for your own as does your partner. Who is playing with who gets sorted out with no trouble from my experience.

best X is a 7. I opened 1 my partner said she would have opened 2 but I can see an auction like 2 2 2 3 leaving me poorly placed

I am confused here. I can't imagine it as anything other than a cue bid. I don't see why one would introduce a new suit at the 4 level opposite a 3S pre-empt. OTOH you are much better than me so there clearly is a reason. If you could expand on this I would be grateful.

(from the UK)

I learn that the good players who open a 15-17 NT can have 14 points. They can have 11 points for their 5-9 weak 2 in 3rd position. I am apparently supposed to know this.

Disclosure - bah

I'm afraid not, no special agreements after 4.

In my experience it is the partners of overbidders who develop such skills fastest.

I disagree with the premise. Locally (in the UK) the largest clubs are not affiliated. People come presumably because they enjoy a game of bridge on a regular basis.

If masterpoints were abolished overnight very few would care.

Jacoby allows split range splinters. Doesn't deny a singleton at all
