There are hands where if everyone else is in 3NT, you want to play 6D, if they are in 6D you want to play 6NT, and if they are in 6NT you want to play 3NT.

I agree that in this auction it would take more time than usual to see who the declarer will be. For strains that are bid naturally early in the auction you usually just know, but strains that are bid incidentally in the middle don't register as clearly.

I'd be ashamed at chalking up +1430 for making 6NT

You con't do carryover. The crossover function handles that. Make certain the boards in the second session are factored up to make up for the lower top.

In the constructed hands for West, I believe that 1 showed 5 and the 3 bid showed 3. This is the way Bobby Levin plays with Steve Weinstein. Also the 3 seems strange in a standard framework.

A while, about 3 months, back I heard all the cheaper rooms were sold out and got space elsewhere. Was I misinformed? If not why is there a problem now?

From Ian McKinnon's “Duplicate Bridge Schedules, History, and Mathematics”

Team 1 is pairs 1,2
Team 2 is pairs 3,4
Team 3 is pairs 5,6

Round 1 3v5 set 1; 1v6 set 3, 2v4 set 6
Round 2 4v6 set 1; 1v5 set 4, 2v3 set 5
Round 3 4v5 set 2, 6v2 set 4; 3v1 set 6
Round 4 6v3 set 2; 5v2 set 3; 4v1 set 5

You cannot compare until the end. Fraction of the boards played is the same as the normal 3 table round robin. Each pair gets to play against each pair on the other teams.

What East should do at his second turn depends on what he thought the 2 bid meant. If natural then 4 seems right, but is 2 was thought to show diamonds and a major, or spades and another then pass would be reasonable.

There is a skip if there are an even number of board sets. There is not a skip if you are doing a 9 round or 13 round web movement.

I really dislike both NS and EW pairs having to move. The idea of stationary boards is easy for the director but what you described has extra boards in play.

Except for the highest number team my movement is basically boards up one table, but sitting out a round before getting there. I am trying it out tomorrow and can report on how it works.

The BCS can be set to have the ranking and percentages include only the one section, or include all sections. There is no middle ground. At tournaments I've only seen the former. If the sections the tournament was scored across vary from what the BCS is doing the scores can differ by several percent. If not then late arriving scores can affect things but usually by no more than one percent.

I had 8 games of 18-21 tables that were 2 sections. I always scored across the field but compared ranked across the field to only ranked within sections. Flight A player got fewer masterpoints and flights B and C got more masterpoints if I ranked across the field for this sample. Overall it was slightly more for ranking across the field.

On point 3 you can avoid the relay during round 1 by having table 14 play 19 and 20 round 1, 1-2 round 10. Have table 17 play 1-2 round 4 and 19-20 round 13.

On Points 5-6 I like to have table 1's boards go to assembly table and have table 14 pass to 13. 14 is usually much closer to 13 than 1 is.

I think I will finally state the reason for my dealing method.
I wanted something that if you deal the cards out and place the 4 hands on top of each other and repeat that it is a long time before the cards get back to their initial position. The standard dealing methods return after 200-500 deals. This one maximizes the number at 180180, if you place East top, North, West, South bottom.

It was not chosen for either speed or convenience.

If a deck is not completely shuffled then the dealing algorithm matters. Comparing the standard method to giving each player 13 consecutive cards is comparable to 1/2 a shuffle. The paper I saw this in said that my SWENNEWS… is better but I could not tell how to figure out the best way from it.

In a compact KO at the last nationals we were tied at IMPS and BAM. The directors went straight to coin toss which we lost. I could not be too miffed since we were behind at total points.
