about me

English club player, average club standard.  President of my club because I think I can fix anything!

\n

Newly qualified club TD, just gaining experience.

\n

Love the game and always trying to improve.  Have played for over 50 years - next year I will be good.

\n

I play 2/1 with my regular partner, very much in the current Italian style with Transfer Walsh and 2!C as 18-19 balanced (same transfers).  Unusual in England.

\n

Retired in 2008 after selling the business - how about that for timing, right at the top of the market!  25 years of management experience in professional business services companies.

\n

I'm the classic polymath, broad but shallow knowledge.  BSc Electronics, MBA, BA History and currently studying for a MA in Military History (just for entertainment).

\n

So I know nothing but can manage anything.  Now too old and cold and settled in my ways to be useful.  But if you want an opinion ...

Ruling fron Eastbourne
No, because nobody does it! We have a 20mph speed limit in the centre of Birmingham. Nobody takes any notice of that either. :-)
EBU Summer Meeting
I think you have to get away from the shibboleths which divide bridge players into various categories! We are all bridge players and in England most are members of the EBU and if there is going to be an annual "get together" then it needs to appeal to all of ...
EBU Summer Meeting
Kieran Agreed
EBU Summer Meeting
Frances I worded it badly as I know what the EBU did this year. I meant to say "Far more sensible to find a meeting room surrounded by hotels, as the EBU are doing this year, than a meeting room in an hotel." Apologies for the poor grammar. Not all ...
EBU Summer Meeting
As I've suggested before the EBU would do well to ask people who don't go what it would take to get them to go rather than just asking people who do go!
EBU Summer Meeting
I'm sure there are any number of non-hotel venues available. There are over 1,000 meeting rooms for hire in Birmingham and surely one might be appropriate! For example a quick Google shows that the Atrium at Millennium Point can seat 240 for dinner and hold 500 for a ...
EBU Summer Meeting
What is the attraction of the seaside? I've seen the sea. In Britain it's wet and cold. As for Eastbourne, it's somewhere people go to die, which is maybe appropriate given the state of the game. Birmingham on the other hand has many attractions (and I don ...
Infraction no penalty
A few years ago my regular partner alerted a bid of mine and when asked gave an explanation which came from fairyland. The Incident Report in my club's records simply says "Chris snorted". :-) I don't think ops were damaged.
What are the EBU rules for 3rd seat light openers?
There are no (?) illegal bids just illegal agreements. Your opponents are entitled to know your agreements both explicit and implicit. So if you regularly open 1NT with 11 points, playing weak NT, as many do you need to announce the bid as "11 to 14". If you psyche regularly it ...
What is an Expert in EBUland?
I oscillate between King and Ace and I'm definitely not an expert! I don't know all the Ace players but those I do know, having played against them or kibbed them, are in my opinion experts. That's where I'd set the expert level. One ...
