Bridge Information

Favorite Bridge Memory
Overcalling 6D over 1S with AKJ109x in spades and AKQJxxx in diamonds... and then doubling the opponent who decided to sacrifice in 6S. Not joking.
Bridge Accomplishments
Second in 1999 National Pairs in Belarus. Mini-Spingold (0-1500) 2005.

Squeeze threat recognition
Franco, you beat me by five minutes to suggest 14 spades. :-) I was writing a long post in defense of "played as compound" expression. Now unnecessary... also probably was longer than yours. Karthik, I'd like to reiterate that compound squeeze in general case is ambiguous.
Squeeze threat recognition
Or we can say it is played "as compound squeeze". You know, similarly to "simple squeeze played as double squeeze" thing.
A percentage play problem
Jim's answer looks final to me. :-)
A percentage play problem
My rough instinct is that to Q and if holds, to 10 gets you about 63%. And taking finesse first will get you 62%. These are close so I need to run actual numbers.
A percentage play problem
Ethan, you will always make if you play to to Q and KJ are onside: you next play to 10. If defender splits, you cover with the ace, then play towards 10 again so diamond loser will go away.
A Proposal from World Bridge Productions
Not sure if anybody mentioned this yet. But I think with electronic bridge we still can keep some of the table feel intact. Just have video feeds of both opponents live streamed to you. The higher the resolution the better.
The Fantunes bidding system
If you know your history, yes. But regular folks when asked at the table "what system do you play?" won't be in this uncomfortable position to say "Fantunes" (thereby promoting them). System is not a person and should not be faulted for its creators' flaws.
The Fantunes bidding system
Well. If you want to separate the system from its inventors we probably do need to come up with a new name.
