about me

I started bridge in 1963, first taught to play Roman ♣ !! - they were winning all the time.  As Standard became a second language I looked at everything with a critical eye as to complete system not bits and pieces. In those days all Standard players just popped in conventions without concern for system and style or comparative effectiveness as to what was lost. That was partly why K-S was the first true "Standard" system I played. I found fairly early that my conservative nature cost at the bridge table which lead to weak NT and weakish openings. Enforced aggression. In the 70's we were routinely opening all 11 HCP and most 8+ HCP with 9 cards in 2 suits (ZOO ♣).

After some success  using these methods into the 80's, I essentially left bridge. It started with partners leaving the area and was compounded by business, political, and family demands. After a 20+ year absence I returned. Reconnecting with an old occasional player that liked canape style and unconventional systems, we at one time rotated between 3 systems.

Now, older, I mostly limit myself to an unusual strong ♣ (no 5+M!), 10-12NT, and Standard Major openings system with the occasional Standard. Much of the joy from bridge is finding new effective methods and adjunct based on a cost analysis approach.

Stands EW - while depending on partnership styles ( if when sequence not clearly defined, lean to natural or practical) could properly effect the explanation of 2C. If NS actually alerted and explained when EW inquired as Michaels I would adjust NS harshly for violating procedure with the effect of clearing up ...
What is a ‘convention’?
The discussion makes it clear why there is no definition or mention of the word "convention". Give the creators of the "new" laws credit for removing "convention" which many interpretations exist. Now if we replace shall and may with will or will not or has the option of, then we ...

My choice is CAT (soon to be in a Bridge World issue) X = 4+H, if only 4 then 5+ another 2C = 4+S, if only 4 then 5+ another 2D = Equal length Majors 2H,2S = Real suit 5+ good X and 2C can also be a different type of ...
Does Transfer lebensohl Apply after (2M) X (P)?
I play T→Leb after 1N, Weak 2's, Strong ♣ and nebulous 1♦ after 2 level natural interference.... But without full and complete discussion it is worse than nothing to play it. If a bid is not defined explicitly or implicitly by default meanings it simply should not be bid.
Mike Cailean's bidding problem: K7432 86 A KQT65
My agreements is 3♠ says look at trump, which seems the main issue.

I think the gate was more effective. You can't ask people not to be rude, you must prevent it.
ACBL to End Cell Phone Ban in 2013
Simple solution is to have short range jammers in the playing area (I know it foolishly is illegal) Suitable solution for testing, contests, and rudeness (theaters, concerts, public areas).
Omar Olgeirsson's bidding problem: 954 5 QT9873 KQ6
Agree with comments. Don't try to recover and assume P before did not affect the auction.
Han Peters's bidding problem: J5 AKQ4 9642 K75
My partner would have 0-4-5-4 minimum (-,Jxxx,AQxxx,Axxx) and LHO is most likely 5-2-4-2 or 5-3-4-1 with the D K - 5S down 2 and 5 red would depend on spots and defense but usually make.
